Do you use coats for your dogs??

yep, coat for mine! with the weather lately and the rain which she hates - im sure shes been wishing she was back in spain. she has 2 equafleeces, a thermatex, and a thermatex rainsheet.
 
Yes because she point blank refuses to go out for a wee if it's chucking it down :D and it keeps her a bit cleaner when bumbling around the farm (don't wear it for long walks or runs). Also have a thermatex which is a god send, she gets cold when she comes in wet because invariably she lies down and goes to sleep then gets cold cos she's stopped moving around!
 
Mine's a Beddy/whippet lurcher and, although he's got a long, rough coat, there's no undercoat. Also, he's really slight in build, so there's no extra body fat there to keep him warm.

Like the horses, he would prefer it to be really cold but dry and calm, rather than warmer but wet and windy. It's the wet that really makes him shiver, and that's when he needs a coat most.

So he has a selection of coats, depending on the weather. He also has a couple of hi-viz/reflective coats for when he's loose on the farm/walked in the dark evenings, making it much easier to see what he's up to!
 
Yes, on uber skinny collie who hasnt an ounce of fat on him. Masta to keep him dry when outside and a hotter dog fleece as 'jammies' at night cos he lives in the ultility room, and its not very warm.

He doesn't really like his masta one, but loves his fleece and wags his tail when I go to put it on. Get collie squashy ears at the masta one!
 
I used to have a waterproof coat for Herman (longhaired weim) but he hated it so rarely wore it. He had an Equafleece jumper for after baths :)

Otto (short haired weim) shivers if the temp drops below 8degrees :lol: but he is only 4.5 months so will forgive him a while yet ;) He has an outhwaites waterproof coat for any outdoor walk he does, he hates water/puddles and avoids them as much as he can and he is rapidly outgrowing an array of Equafleece jumpers.
 
My Weim would most probably melt if she got wet, so has got several coats to ensure her continued existence! She has 3 Weatherbeetas, a Masta 'stable rug' for indoors, and a Thermatex for layering (since my springer chewed the belly strap off it!) Spoilt? Definitely, but she's worth it!!
 
I have a variety for my 3 staffords as it is so cold at my yard. They all have thermatex, fleeces, heavier waterproof with belly strap and hi viz. Collected over a period of time but heavily used. I am careful with what my youngest wears when we go out hacking to make sure she won't get caught up on branches and trapped.
 
They all have coats but rarely use them unless its very cold. JR ruins his going in the bushes, staffy doesn't want to wear one, patterdale doesn't need one as very wiry coat, the dobie likes hers thou :)
 
Our Cavalier has one for the winter when its wet and cold because he is a wimp and also because he's not very good at keeping weight on so he needs to try and be kept warm. He just sleeps by the aga to dry off afterwards :D
 
My collie has a decent wardrobe now - she only ever had a waterproof for if it was tanking it down when she was younger (she hated coats) however now she has pretty bad arthritis in her hips so if she gets cold and wet then she gets very stiff and sore. She has a waterproof for warm and wet weather and a fleece lined waterproof for colder weather. These two I had to make as I couldn't find one that was long enough to cover her hips without swamping the rest of her :rolleyes: I've also got a weatherbeeta double fleece for when it's really cold and she has a knitted jumper that she wears overnight in the winter - she insists on sleeping under my bed and is cold in the morning without it on.

She's long coated with lots of fluff but doesn't object to her coats now and I don't want her stiff and sore if we can avoid it.

My sister's lurcher has an even more extensive collection :D
 
My pathetic boxer won't get out the car in the rain without her jacket on, esp as yard. Even then you only stays out a bit before retreating back to the boot of my truck. Such a wimpy girly.
 
Yep, big collie needs a new one tho so might have a look in the sales for the masta fluorescent one, little collie has bigs collies old on at the mo and the little cavi has three jumpers, one Newmarket fleece, one WB thermocell fleece and two water proof costs.

I hate went dog all over my house so that's why the collies have them. I just have to towel off the legs.
 
I am looking for a warm coat for our french bulldog. he suffers from the cold but have been unable to find one that fits due to his big chest and neck size compared to his length If the length is correct the coat cannot be done up and if the chest/neck fits it then sticks out behind him for several inches.. Any ideas please ?
 
The thermatex will fit as I have no problems with my staffords wearing them. They also can fit the weather beeta dog coats and the straps are long enough to actually go around their waists. I have glued on bits of sheepskin on the bib as one of mine is so sensitive that she got rubs on her tummy.
 
Can anyone recommend a dog coat that covers the belly area? Have a hairy border collie who is causing arguments between me and my OCD other half by coming home covered in mud or making wet patches on carpet if I hose him off after the yard. I don't like the idea of dog coats for such an 'outdoors' dog that doesn't need one but we don't have a utility room etc and am fed up of constant earache...!

I do for george when it gets cold. Although he is a long hair northern inuit . we clip his legs and tummy and also he is getting older now

Nope, mine don't not for walk, water wont harm them and they run around to keep warm, my kenneled single coated lurcher is coated in her kennel and if ever the heater is off in the doggy room the whippets get coated, coats are strictly for when they are still! not walks:p
The hairy kennel dogs have a perfect natural coat on their backs:p
 
mine do for the journey home after a days work (beating)
they get a rub down with towels then thermatex's on
then once home they have them off again once fire is on and they can snuggle down in front of it
 
Yep, mainly too keep my house dry after walks, however they do both feel the cold, they both (a tiny JRT & a lurcher) have a waxed waterproof coat, the lurchers is lined, both are fleecy underneath. I also have a towelling coat for each of them should they go swimming/get caught in the rain.

The JRT is completely nesh, and the other day while I was moving electric fencing at the yard, in the pouring rain, dissappeared, the lurcher stayed with me and happily bounded around the paddock chasing leaves...:rolleyes: JRT nowhere to be seen (which is unusual as she generally likes to chase the lurcher while the lurcher chases leaves...)

Got back to the yard, and found her sat in the tack room looking at me in disgust that i expected her to stay outside in the rain... I had to pick her up to get her to the car as there was no way she was going to budge and get her tiny little princess self wet!:D
