I will only walk my two when its cooler so they go out early morning then about 8pm they are both mad and never know when to stop so i worry about them in the heat. They do have plenty of water too i think im just a soft mummy :) so who walks them in the heat and are they fine with it ? or do you wait till its cooler.

Yes, but I wet Henry first so he keeps cool. He tends to run about like a loon for a moment then realises how hot it is and settles into a trundle.

If they are off the lead I only walk mine in the evenings, plus we go into the woods which is even cooler :) They are very cross with me at the moment as they havent been off the lead for quite a few days, due to Flick's head wound and stitches and Islay's teeth extractions which have led to really painful looking holes in her gums :(

Well its still 80 degrees here at about 9pm so I have to walk in the heat.
But we walk early morning and night so we are not in the sun at least and he can run at this time.
You know when its summer because the dog park in full at 6am.

Then we do 2 small on lead round the block walks during the sun so he can pee.
(he can't pee on the lawn becasue we get fined for nasty looking grass)

Yes, my Lab gets her two walks a day - without them she'd go nuts! I walk early in the morning - leaving about 6.30 and she gets just over an hour then. Second walk in the afternoon is shorter, taking in as much shade as possible and always, always near water so that she can swim.

Mine do get walked twice a day, but early morning before work and then about 7pm when it starts to get cooler i will walk them down to the horses field. I dont think its fair to drag my pugs around in the heat, and the basenji just wants to chill out and sunbathe in the garden when its hot! Riley the lab just lies in the pond, so i guess he doesnt like the heat either..!!

In this weather we have to go out early and late, madam is really intolerant of the heat. We do an hour or more in the morning, depending on what time I get up, but have to be back before 9.00 else she cooks.

If there's a breeze we can pop out again at around 17.00, strictly no hooning, just a toddle round the park under the shade of the trees for an hour with a detour to have a sit in the water trough. It's usually still too hot but I have to go then to tire her out so I can leave her alone for a bit while I pop down to sort the horse.

Then after hoomins have eaten she has another walk, 22.00 or later, have been known to go jogging at midnight. :o

She spends the hot days sleeping in the living room under her own freestanding fan...

Mornings and evenings, but mornings is better as if they are lying around in the heat they will have a higher temp in the evening.

We have a stream on-site so if it is a true scorcher they get a couple of bursts in the field with dunkings.

Harvey has a short walk in the morning, to check the horses, at about 7.30am. I have to fetch the cows up for milking in the evening, so take him with me. We go out about 4.45pm.

I always take him to the pond for a cool off as we head down the track for home. He tends to have a drink out of it too. The Border Collie will drink from the cow water troughs as well, while out, but Harvey can't reach them.

He seems to cope ok. We're only out for about 40 minutes maximum.

My routine doesn't change, still go out at 7am and 4pm, and for same length of time. Just alter where we go - stick to the woody routes or head for the lakes/rivers.

I tend to drive to my walks as I don't like them on leads on the pavement. This way I can park in the shade, it really makes a difference to them cooling down.

6am and 9pm. The 2 older ones cant cope with walking in the heat and the pup runs around like a mad thing for 5 minutes, then just flakes out so its much nicer to go early and late. We walk off lead in a field behind our house which has a river on one side so they all go in twice a day to cool off. They get to laze around in the garden all morning and are then shut indoors whilst Im at work for the , they dont seem to mind though, the downstairs is all ceramic tiled so they can keep cool. Have felt like joining them on the floor for the last few days!

We pretty much stick to our normal regime - he gets walked at 7am for an hour and again at 4pm for an hour. Normally another 20 mins around 8pm and then a last thing pee break.

We live right on the woods though and its generally cooler (though can be humid) - we just make sure he doesn't hoon around too much or make the walk a bit shorter if its hot.

We also bought him a childrens plastic sand pit at the weekend and filled it with water so he now has his own personal swimming pool!! He can flop into whenever he wants (and does) which helps to keep him cool and also stops him heading for our neighbours pond!

My dog doesn't tend to want walked when it's this hot - he prefers to lie on the wooden floor or the tiles and only pops out in the garden and back - we take him out for walks early in the morning and later in the evening when it's cooler.

I I don't think its fair to drag my pugs around in the heat

I hear you loud and clear!

It has been 95 degrees and hotter for the past week in NYC. I've been walking Stella and Prince at 7am and 10pm, with a couple of five-minute relief walks during the day. Luckily our apartment is open plan, with 60 feet of running room front to back, so we've been doing some indoor fetch with the air-conditioner on full blast.

For the walks, I take water and alternate between drenching Prince and offering him a drink. Even though she has a flat face, Stella does incredibly well up to about 80 degrees or so, but starts to plod when it's over 85; my vet often comments on her "gigantic nostrils", which evidently help in hotter conditions :D
