OH walked into the stable block the other day to find me babywiping my osses bum...he couldnt believe it....please tell me I haven't commited some sort of assault on my poor defenceless beastie

serious assault poppymo!

I don't its always clean, only gets squirted when he has sweated up loads, which has been quite a lot recently. Have to lift his tail quite a bit as he can sometimes get sores wither side of the top if he has gotten sweaty (oh dear sounds like I constantly work him in to a lather!

)

Yes

though it's not something I generally talk about in publi. I try to do it on the sly, get in and out before anyone sees (including the horse!)

Mack always seems to have a clean bum hole, smooth as a babies bottom lol.

But yes I have also commited the same offence as you, mostly just before a showing class though

I wipe my horse's bum and ladybits every day - she gets very crusty otherwise and starts scratching her arse on any available surface!

In my discreet research I have come to the conclusion that some horses have more skin and flappy bits around their bum and are thus more prone to getting dirty and crusty. My mare seems to have very convoluted skin around her ladyparts, certainly.

my LOU horse seems to think coming in for the farrier to trim his feet is the most exciting thing to happen to him all week and he does a lot of 'runny' poo's all over the place ...... so yes i do hose his backside after this! (its more than a babywipe could cope with!)

Other beastie doesn't seem to ever get dirty backside ... sometimes a bit sweaty, so again ..... i deal with it as per above mentioned hosepipe treatment

I do have a weird memory flash-back having just read your post of own-a-pony-days and being told you should have 2 sponges per 1 horse .... 1 for his eyes & nose and the other exclusively for his bottom.
Do people do this?

blackcob.....thanks for your invaluable research.

I am intrigued as to how you carried this out...was it a matter of tail-lifting after hours under cover of darkness or did you wear a disguise and pretend to be the vet?

When I first got Freddie the move and new spring grass didn't do his tummy any good and he had a bad runny bum. I had to wash it thoroughly with rubber gloves and sponges every day otherwise he was in a right state.

Now I just do it about once a week with baby wipes or if he's having a full all over bath.

Yup, D gets a bit of a messy bum most days, i wait for it to dry before cleaning him as he likes the feel of the dandy brush round his bum hole

he starts wibbling his bottom lip and lifts his tail so i can do all around and give the doc a scratch too, he's not overly keep on water dripping down his legs..! and yes i have cleaned his bum in public, i even gave his willy a bit of a clean the other day, as it was a bit crusty, in front of my dad and he was like why have you got this thing about the horses' willies, your allways bl00dy touching them
wink.gif

well they've got to be cleaned havent they..!

I was leading FB back from the paddock yeserday, chatting to elderly neighbour who was out for a stroll and without thinking bent down and picked some crusticles off FB's sheath - and inspected them. Well, the look on her face was a picture...

Actual bum no, very clean but I always shower or sponge him under dock and between his chubby butt cheeks after exercise as he is so unfit he lathers up and then gets sore if I don't.

tasel, with gritted teeth and brute force normally (he doesn't like it so requires a little encouragement I grab firmly and pull till he gives in
grin.gif
but its soo much better when its done. (Wouldn't do it if he was ok but can get sticky legs! so do about every 6 months)

My OH says he wouldn't like to meet you on a night out ....

Made his eyes water when I read him that!

lol

I am single.........................can't think why!

maybe not the best description but is pretty accurate, he generally refused to let me have it so we do around and up first then if I can get a good grip on it he will eventually let me have it. - oh and use plenty of oil.

Oh, Ester... sorry to Admin if this gets a bit dodgy, but simply have to mention!!!! I told a non-horsey friend about this, and she believes that there are a few humans of the male species out there who'd obligingly let you "clean" theirs without kicking up the fuss that your horse does!!!!

I do Star's wit baby wipes, or else she gets extremely sore and rubs herself till she bleeds. Have to make sure all her 'girly crevices' are clean or else she's in the same situation when she's in season. I also apply Sudocrem to stop her getting sore. She has very pink delicate skin.
