do your children have ponies?

I have a 5 year old girl and a 2 yr old boy and they have an 11.3hh welshie. I'm sure there are many who think they are spoilt but thats their problem!! They certainly are lucky, but i hope not spoilt. To see the enjoyment on their faces when they ride is priceless and caring for a dependant. animal teaches valuable lessons. My 2 year old already has a good bash at mucking out (even if it does take me twice as long to undo his damage!!). My daughter realises she is very fortunate to have a pony and loves to 'share' him with her friends. Last but not least, i love having him, he makes us all happy and has reduced my desire for another baby!!

They both have always (from the start at eight years each) done ALL their own jobs and mine too on occasion. They forfeit much in the way of other activities to maintain their ponies' level of fitness and schooling. Boy child has to keep it under his hat from schoolmates. Girl child is 'Merry mad'. The old girl they started on is now a 'family' pony and we all share her jobs. She's back right, out with the rest of the bunch last weekend. Ponies are a joy and a great privilege and my children know they are lucky. We have had unbelievable fun and their learning experiences are immeasurable. Here's to ponies!!!!!!!!!!!

I was 2 when I got my first pony. But it was my sister's really until I was about 4. Sometimes my mum wished we had taken up cross-stitch instead! But i am so pleased that my parents have allowed me to have such a fantastic childhood and much of that was down to my ponies.

Here is the day Rosie arrived.

I know the following aren't cute but these are pictures of the first time my daughter ever rode! Wicked mummy wouldn't let her have stirrups AND she trotted. We weren't "into" horses at the time but had been looking after this little showjumping pony mare whilst she recovered from a tendon injury (in an attempt to get some weight off her) and her owner said my daughter could ride her if she wanted. The mare was an absolute nutter in the ring and known locally as the hooligan but she was sweet for my daughter, who cried her eyes out when the mare was fully better and went on a proper loan! So we got a little Section A on loan and then it all sort of snowballed . . .

Yes my chidren have ponies. I love spoiling my children. Can't see anything wrong with that. They are happy, well balanced children. If I want to spoil them I will..couldn't care less what anyone else thinks of that!!

my eldest (5) got his first pony at 2 years a welsh a called sage,
then dieago a skewbald shetland, then a new forest called cilla black, then a welsh b senate view brigadette and now has a 13.2 dales called magic.
my youngest (3) got his first ponys at 12 months a chestnut mini shetland called coco and his brother rufus, then moved on to the new forest cilla, now has a black welsh a called littleman

both my kids love doing lead rein, fancy dress ect, the oldest is just getting brave enough to start jumping, amid playing cowboys and indians on the ponys.
my eldest has no fear and will happily plod around on my giant alfie at 18.3hh.

My son has had one since he was 3 or 4, firstly a little pony on loan that took him to best turned out classes and hacked out on a lead rein, and then more recently our highland mare, both of them were 9 when we got her.

For me it is about giving him opportunities that I never had as a child, although he has never been pressured to ride..fortunately he hasn't lost interest and is still on track to follow his chosen career in the Household Cavalry (although there is still plenty of time for him to change his mind!)

mine first had a pony each when they were 5 & 7 and didnt bother with them after a while so they were sold.. just over 18 months ago( then aged 11 & 13) they got meg who ash outgrew that winter, (she needs roller skates on her now but weight wise is fine) she does still jump her at shows as taylor is really just learning to jump. ash also has her own horse now . charlie & taryn are 3 & 4 yrs old and have just got a shetland, the other boy has a go on meg now and again, i would let him ride the shetland but i dont know if he would be to heavy for her.
