Eat horse cr@p?
My two do ALL the time, get to the yard and they're off, straight for the field or muck heap  it gets so frustrating as they just never stop! An I'm worried what medicinces the ponys have may effect them?? :( do your dogs do this? Any ideas??

I find that they soon get bored of it! They eat it for the first month that they're exposed to it, throw up a few times, then get bored of it. I notice that people who try and prevent their dogs from eating it, or don't bring their dogs to the stables much, still have dogs that are obsessed with horse poop!

One of mine does all the time- as soon as you let her out of the house she runs straight into the field and starts tucking in! My other two aren't really too bothered with it- they may eat a tiny bit but come straight to me if I call them back. It's really odd though- makes you wonder why they eat it? I once heard that it's to do with a vitamin/mineral deficiency but I've got no idea.

Eating horse poo is really good for dogs. They are providing themselves with semi digested roughage which they cannot provide trough their own digestive system. Also they get lots of 'good' bacteria essential for their digestion through eating it. So don't try to stop them, it's a good thing!

Yep its very good for them!
We were at a specialist behavioural course at an equestrian centre with our GSD and another dog on the course repeatedly tried to stop to eat it - the instructor eventually told the owner to let him as it was good for them!

Last year i tool my aunties dog for a walk to my horses field and let him have a run around, he started tucking into this fresh pile of poo so i ran towards him to stop him, slipped and fell right on my ass in the s**t... i was not amused ! :)

all of mine like to roll in anything smelly... tbh i wouldnt mind just horse muck, its the fox and deer smells i cant stomach.

only one actually eats manure, i just thought it was linked to when she had puppies and use to clear up after them.

Yes all three of my dogs do, but my JR turned my stomach the other day when he gobbled up the cornflakes I'd just pulled of my gelding's willy and then the big green grolly that was outside the stable of a COPD horse! Gross....

My Dobe eats every kind of poo imaginable except dog poo! It is so gross, she even scrapes the dove poo off the stable floors with her teeth! Ewww! She know's she's not allowed too! Also rolls in fox & badger poo, Niceeee!

My old dog ate my toddler's poo once - was potty training him, he accidently pooed on the patio, grabbed toddler to clean him up, came back downstairs to clean up patio and there was the dog licking his lips and no poo to be seen:eek:

Yes, mine love it and can usually find a lump or two even when I'm convinced I've picked up every bit. An old remedy for persuading a dog with a poor appetite to eat is to feed it some horse poo. Horse s**t is the canine equiv. of Belgian Chocolates, very yummy...

Our three JR love it, can't resist a bit of horse poo! They also happen to like rolling in fox poo... eating hoof and frog clippings (usually one ends up being sick), horse chestnuts when they break off, baby mice that are freshly caught (gobbled down in one) and then they especially like to try give you a bit of tonsil hockey afterwards!

Not any more. He doesn't find it that interesting nowadays, although he used to. But he does enjoy sniffing out the cat doings buried in the muck heap or around the farm - that's vile

Our old GSD ate poo all of his 18yrs, our manure heap was his all you could eat buffet, but we always knew where to find him.
My daughters terrier loves rolling in urine as well as eating poo, she looks like a brillo pad when she dries, my daughter won't have her back till she's had a bath

Yes. It makes me feel sick, but it's a dog thing and I can hardly stop them short of chaining them up!

One dog has his from the muck heap, another will go into the stables and my bitch will help herself straight off the wheelbarrow!

Isn't it disgusting? My doby was a horror for it. We had a cream (yes I know it's a stupid colour) carpet fitted in hall, stairs, landing (looked lovely) and at roughly 3am that very night he threw up the green, foul smelling lot at the very top of the stairs and managed to hit at least five steps with it. Never got the stain out so had to get a new one fitted! Thank god for good insurance companies.

The worst thing he ever ate was jelly fish on the beach. The vet was gob smacked, said he'd never known a dog do that before.

Also had a retriever who would eat ANYTHING including a rotting blackbird, I dashed at him to prevent him getting it down but he swallowed the lot without chewing, except for the legs which fell off as he picked it up. He legged it, ran round me and went back and picked up the legs. He promptly threw it all back up in the living room. Charming creature.

Two current dogs eat cow poo when they can get it and absolutely LOVE what the cats leave behind. Thankfully cats are pretty rare out here so it's not too often.

my jap spitz does it all the time. he also clears up all the left over horse feed from the ground. which is ok, until he finds food which has been rained on and trampled into the mud and gone off. it makes his breath stink to high heaven. yuck yuck yuckety yuck! it doesnt seem to upset his stomach, i guess he's just used to it. he gets measly rations of dog food at home as he's quite plump!
