Do your horses know when you're laughing at them?

I know that my dog hates being laughed at - she actually gets really grumpy if she thinks you're making fun of her. Are horses the same? I can't think of a time when I've laughed at Scoobs and seen a reaction, but we have a really grumpy little pony at the RS who pulls horrible faces when you laugh at him (although this isn't a reliable indicator because he pulls horrible faces when you so much as look at him!). So, does your horse seem to know when you're laughing at him, and does it bother him? Or dogs or other animals, for that matter.

Frank either grumps at you if you are laughing at his expense, or is very pleased with himself (stands taller and smug smirk on his face) if he has done some clowning around that you can't help but giggle at.

So yes, I definately believe they do. I would extend /narrow it to the fact that they know the atmosphere (much better than we do) and laughter completely changes an atmosphere.
