Do your horses love the rain?

I went out this evening about 5pm to get my 2 horses in - it was starting to rain really heavily. Felt a bit sorry for them as they also got soaked overnight last night. So, I thought I'd bring them in for the night, give them some nice hay, put a fleece on them and groom and pamper them a bit.

Usually when I fetch them in they come in no problem. There's usually a bit of chaff waiting for them, nice deep beds etc.

Tonight, neither of them would be caught, no way! I spend 10 mins trying all the techniques I know to catch difficult sods and they still won't come in. I was soaked to the skin!

And so they are still out. Raining really bad now and blowing a gale, but they are happy (and naked, not even a summer sheet!)

Do your horses ever refuse to come in when its raining? Mine have done it a few times now when it rains.

My gelding is a complete GIRL.

He has been babied all his life so will stand at the gate screaming at anyone who comes past to bring him in no matter what time of day. If it blows a cold wind he's miserable out, let alone rain. Sometimes I think he loves people more than horses.

One of mine HATES it. Brought him in yesterday to lunge him and it was tipping it down and he was walking all over the place with his head inbetween his legs when I stopped walking directly infront of him.

Mine all hate it but we have SUNSHINE here in Scotland

for a change.... usually though when it rains here it's always accompanied by a fierce wind so that it rains horizontally

but happily, mine are all outside munching away in the sunshine and a gentle breeze (not that I want to rub that in or anything

Ive only ever known my girlie want to come in twice in the two and half years of owning her - once in a blizzard in winter and the other when it rained for days and cos her buddy wanted to be in. But then she is a Welsh Sec D.

However, just looking out of the window and its bucketing down so may go and stick a rug on her.

A horse i use to have on loan walked backwards with his bum to the rain, he hated it so much, but still never wanted to come in. He always gave me the run around in the pouring rain. But always going backwards. It was really funny!!

All the horses I have owned have hated the rain!!! Worst by far was our beautiful 14.2 grey Connemara/TB mare( now sold and v v v much missed) who would cry like a baby from the gate if ever I dared leave her out in the rain! Good job I work from home...as many a time I have got soaked going to bring her in.
All out TB's hate the rain too... and if its forecast I simply leave them in as I know they will only get cold & miserable & they love their stables anyway.....

My t/b mare is a complete woose if it rains. I watch the forecast and if it is to rain she gets a sheet on. Even if it is warm with the rain, she will shiver with teeth chattering and almost cry to be rescued, totally miserable. I know i should try and rough her off but i haven't got the heart. She loves her stable and always happy to come in.

I feel like such a bad mum, my TB is out there in the rain with no rug on (his own fault for wrecking it and someones fault for sending me one far too big for him from ebay) but he is looking very sorry for himself.
