Just had this discussion with my OH as came in from schooling berg for an hour and said I'm tired now. He said why, all you're doing is sitting there, the horse does all the work. I keep telling him to come and try it so he can that's not what you do but he won't so we'll have to agree to disagree

What do your OH's think?

Mine is the same - says how is it hard work sitting about. He also doesn't get why I have lessons to just sit there.... Pointless exercise trying to explain to him!! :D

Mine is the same, although he has tried it, he recons its not 'very good' exercise! Apparently, I'd be much better off at the gym...

Yes!! Even in the freezing cold depths of winter I am red and sweaty (nom)....mainly because my time is split 1:10 home:uni...... so I haven't got the opportunity to build up my core muscles and keep them!! I made OH sit on Bruce and do sitting trot (he's never ridden before so made him pull himself into the saddle with the pommel) and he commented on how much hard work just doing that is!!

I am allergic to the gym :)

He certainly thinks it's a lot of effort for the riding! He used to say barely counts as exercise till I made him have a go walk and trot. He hasn't ridden since but leaves my 'sport' alone now!

He didn't, until he saw me having a lesson on a simulator, when he agreed it looked like "quite a lot of work." I'm trying to get him to start :D so I'm hoping he won't be too put off when he comes to see me ride an actual horse in my lesson on Sunday!

Mine, thankfully, knows it is because his sister has ridden for years. However, a guy I worked with used the "but you just sit there" line on me once, he wouldn't step up and have a lesson though :p

Mine does say "all you did was sit there! I didn't find it that hard, its easy work" when I've had a particularly hard schooling session and he just rides her in walk back to her stable......!!!:rolleyes::rolleyes:

I know this quote well; I remember saying it myself to my wife about 10 years ago after she came home from a riding lesson!
Soon after that i tried riding myself and then spent the next afternoon sleeping on the sofa to recover!
Many years later, we now have our own horse, and our own horsebox etc but i don't get the time to sleep much on that sofa anymore!

its all good.

For those of you that have OH's that think riding is just 'sitting' there - get them on board!!

My OH used to thing it looked easy peasy. He has had a couple of lunge lessons on an armchair but the instructor was doing all the hard work on the floor and all he had to do was learn how to sit 'correctly'
He then thought he was capable enough to get on my 17.3hh 7yo TB - it took him about 10 minutes to fall off after hitting the canter button. He is now working on improving his core muscles to improve his balance :D

Mine always said that too. So i made him try it. He said it was easy in walk. So i thought right, you're trotting. Holiding on to the saddle as first time ever on a horse and had only been on board 10 min. Still said it was easy, so we trotted faster, with one hand off. Still easy :o so made him take both hands off and went faster until we ran out of track. Still easy! I failed. He did make it look like he had been doing it for years. Smarmy, smug git.
