Evening all. Im about to find out this week whether im moving onto another yard where ill be staying at night and on the yard working all day. Ill be living in a 3 bedroom place with myself and my daughter with not much around so looking into getting a big dog not so much as a guard dog it would be a family pet but looks the part for any undesirables who may be about.
We had 2 Dobermans al my childhood years and sadly lost the last one a year before my 7 year old was born so know the breed and have always dreamt of having another. And am getting slightly excited i may be able to.
Anyway want to do it complety the right way, see parents ect. Does anybody know of any dobie pups or a republe breeder in the south east area. Would be prepared to travel probaly 1 1/2 -2 hours for the right dog think i would prefer a male but again the right dog more important. Idealy to come from a busy family home prefrably with children present as i do have a 7 year who fortunaly is very good with animals. Would have company as all ready have terriers and would be on the yard all day and in the family home at night.
Any ideas would be great.:)

http://www.aritaur.co.uk/ If I ever bought a puppy I would be trying these people who health test and publish the results.

My Dobes are rescue from Dobermann Welfare but there is Dobermann rehoming who might have puppies. Like you we need something that looks the part and all my dogs are great for discouraging undesirables but wonderful family dogs.

Site looks good, although thats about 5 hours from me i think long old treck!!!

Have thought about rehoming one maybe not a full adult but an older puppy but am very wary as i do have a 7 year old daughter and they are big dogs so would depend on the reasons for rehoming. I think alot of people just dont realise the work they have to put into them and just get them because of the looks as tthey are stunning!!!;)

Im not in a rush though so keeping my mind open for ideas.:)

I dont understand is it because they are pulling? their bite work looks great plus their agility but I will be the first to admit I dont know anything about that sport.

The breeder looks good though.

Oh breeder looks great and bitework also looks fine. If I was being pedantic I would say the dog tracking should be calm and focused, most judges like to see a slack line, however even if the track is fast as long as it stays fast, not fast/slow/fast/slow, the pace should be uniform....but in 'real life' of course, that IS the way dogs follow a scent, full steam ahead, every doberman I have seen tracking, tracks like that!

Both of mine were 18months and came in because of a marriage break up, they both had bad habits the bitch was fear aggressive with other dogs but got her into a training class and with a lot of work she is absolutely fine.

Yes I can understand that they dont do slow.:D

Aritaur are good, one of my faves is Aritaur Hypnotique, gorgeous bitch with lovely temp.

CC don't DARE dis the Dobes!!! :p
Skiing comment is funny when you see the GSDs being hauled around the show ring :D

Try the South East of England Dobermann club, they will know who has puppies. Be careful though, watch for loads of european breeding in the lines. A lot of the show people were tempted to bring in german lines and not all of them were such good temps as the uk dogs. I have seen a difference in the temps at some of the shows over the years and a lot of of it was to do with new people coming in and being more concerned with winning.

Thats interesting to know both or our family dobes were English ones, absolute brill family pets wouldnt hurt a fly my terrier i had who i sadly lost 3 months ago at a grand old age was the total boss of them, she used to steal there doberman size beds and this giant doberman would squish into a tiny terrier size bed with legs hanging everywhere!!:D

First and formost i want a family pet to live in the home. He/she will be on the yard in the day as a deterant but i dont want a guard dog as such.

Now now its not a competition to see whose best GSD or Dobe, you know what Harry Hill would say FIGHT.:D

Ive been looking on the site and all the dogs are reared on the natural diet(raw) and there is even a little about kibbles including our all time favourite Bakers.

damn! can't believe i typed that wrong. what a numpty :D

a dobe will always be a guard dog in that they have a big bark and are protective when push comes to shove, but that is different to being aggressive. My cara sounds like a big fierce thing and could be if the circumstances dictated but she is the softest dog ever.
She split a nail and the vet had to cut it back, it was obviously sore but the vet didn't even think twice about bending next to her virtually cheek to cheek to clip the nail. He commented afterwards that there weren't many dogs that he would do that with. She is a total angel, well unless you are a cat or a burglar lol

All my lot have been perfect with the vet who has always said they are the best patients.

I love the fact that they know when things are not quite right and go on the alert, they are definately thinking dogs and are not driven by blind instinct. I dont know why though none of mine have ever liked cats.

My dad's have always been fine with cats, he's always had cats too. Foxes, on the other hand.....

One of his guinea pigs escaped a few weeks back and Dad hadn't realised until one of his dobes trotted across the garden with it in her mouth. Dad thought, that was it, curtains for the piggy, but it was totally unscathed!
