That Dutch Shepherd is a serious dog I understand from a friend who has a friend in Canada that they are much favoured for security work.

I dont know who is enjoying this more the owners or the dogs :DI wonder if they have tried it over here.

CC do you have a Dutch Shepherd or know of one when you do your tests?

I only ask because my friends friend has security guards and they only use Dutch Shepherds to guard the grounds and house. Dogs are trained to recognize the family and the family retriever but my friend found them very intimmidating when she stayed there.

No, and none competing near me, as you say, all the ones I have seen would be better suited for security/police work, I know one that's a police dog and the other belonged to a friend of a friend, bought for sport but he was a tad strong so he went to be a personal protection dog abroad.
I do like them a lot but they are not for everyone.

We currently have 4 in our dog club. Great dogs if they are raised properly and exercise and challenged enough.

We compete at Dock Dogs events in the UK but the pictures show the Extreme Vertical event which I have never seen run over here. The competition usually run here is the Big Air - long jumping into 40foot pool of water. We are competing at All About Dogs in Ipswich next weekend. My old dog loves it and also the similar but not quite the same, English version Dash N Splash. I don't think we are as serious about it all as our US counterparts though:)

Yeah we had extreme Air also but i was competing in that so couldn't take pictures :D

How did you get on KatieLou?? How long have you been competing?
Next week is our first comp of the season and Digger has now turned 8 so not sure how we will fare but as long as he enjoys it it we'll carry on and doesn't matter if we get placed or not. He gets so excited when he sees the pool and knows he's going jumping. I have a young dog to start this year too which is exciting - whether she will take to it or not I can't say but she swims like a speedboat and is pretty fearless so hopeful she will take to jumping.

5 years this year.
Not to bad considering he is not a water dog and i had to teach him to swim. We only hit 16ft for our best jump this time.

My brittany isn't running anymore but he did a couple of fun jumps yesterday and hit 20.

Well done! We only started with DD two years ago. Wish I had started when Dig was younger. He gets bigger jumps with Dash N Splash as technique is different - you hold and release your dog at end of run way and the ball or whatever is thrown for you (much easier!). Because he had got used to that method I find it hard to get him to wait at DD while I throw so I have to do place and send which makes him jump downhill. Never mind, we all enjoy it and they are a nice bunch of people
