hi, i hoped you guys could shead some light on this!

Basically, i brought my mare in from the field (she recently had a nasty trailer accident and is still recovering, so is in her field during the day but in a section on her own, so she cant get injured from others). I went to fetch her in in the evening and she was really lame on her left hind.

She was dragging it accross the floor and really wobbly, when i got her to the yard she was really restless, rocking, breathing heavy and clearly distressed, so i rang the emergency vet who came out and examined her. He said she has damaged her pelvis, but it doesnt look fractured, she just lopsided! Then gave her a painkiller and told me to keep my eye on her.

She seemed ok once she had a painkiller and was in her stable, went back to check her in the night and she was fine, had been laying down and had clearly got back up again.

The next day the she was fine, not lopsided, or lame or uncomfortable, so the vet said put her out for a bit, then if she looks funny again bring her in.

So i left her out and she seems fine! I just cant get my head around it! how can she be lopsided one minute but then fine the next! i just dont get it!

Any one got any ideas or previous experience of similar pelvic injuries!

Thanks XxEmmaxX

If the vet can assure you that she has not fractured her pelvis then I would get a Chiropractor to come and look at her.

What did she do in the trailer (Accident). How long ago did she have the accident.

well, it was 11 weeks ago. She literally cut all her side off! it was a real mess! She tore through 2 layers of muscle and damaged the 3rd, very lucky she didnt go through the 3rd or wouldnt be here! She has only had turn out all day for a week so far! she had to have sedation every 6 hours and was on a huge amount of meds, and vet treatment numerous times a day, (couldnt get her to newmarket so had to be done from yard) i stayed with her constantly for the first week or so! She also then got stress colic a couple of times!

But basically its a miricle she is came through it, but is doing really really well now.

I have a physiotherapist coming out tomorrow for treatment on that so will definatley ask her about it anyway!

Emma

That was one nasty injury.

It sounds as if she has laid down or moved wrongly and just twicked one of the muscles she damaged in the accident.

Glad to hear she is now sound and coming along nicely.
