Feel I have to say something to this. WHW can and do act despite whether the RSPCA are involved or have been called already. I think where you are getting confused is that WHW don't prosecute whereas the RSPCA do. WHW often help RSPCA in prosecutions by providing transport/boarding and statements etc.

I think people need to remember the Amersham case before they go criticising the RSPCA too much. I bet nobody has got any idea how many millions that cost the RSPCA to investigate and prosecute.

If this is as you say, then this isn't an 'emergency' thus needing you to call out of hours as its been going on for some time.

Best to get all the facts together & make a concise call in the morning.
Make sure you have location (postcode is a help), local landmarks, even the number of the footpath as these can all be picked up from maps.

Can I ask why so few mention the BHS tho? :confused:
 
Champ Equine Rescue Charity is it? I remember that thread decending into a slanging match last time. Let us know how you get on with reporting it I would imagine there have been a lot of others who have raised concerns

It will have cost probally well over one hundred thousand pounds I would think at a guess .
And that's without the legal costs, the sums are eye watering.
The welfare agencies in the area I worked in all worked together very well we had different strengths and there are huge problems out there it makes sense to co-operate.

If you ring RSPCA on 03001234999 they have 24hr service (although obv nobody will attend tonight!!!!). Make sure you tell them of the poor condition of the horses themselves as sometimes if it's just poor living conditions alone then priority of sick/injured animals is given and it may take time for them to get there. This goes for all of the charities so whoever you ring please make sure they are aware they are thin horses.
 
has this place already been reported? obviously after reading through the other post it does seem like something has happened recently. but is so why does it look exactly the same? same rubbish everywhere and horses looking uncared for. it has been like this for a while
 
I know nothing about the place you are talking about .
But it is not always possible for RSPCA BHS WHW etc etc to get what they would like to do done they just can't stop people doing stupid things if there determined to do so .BHS officers in particiular will spends massive amounts of time advising people but if people won't take advice there may be little you can do.
These things are heartbreaking to go though when you are involved.
I have not been a welfare officer during the time the new welfare act is in force so I have no knowledge of how it's working.
but the old thread suggests to me people are trying to do something about these horses.

I would def report it again. The more reports made the more plausable the reports will look.

I found this place on fb at the time of the original post and raised the concerning issues with the owner of the place. She wasn't willing to take any criticism and has all the hallmarks of a hoarder and potential welfare disaster. She wouldn't take on board any advice and I think the welfare organisations will be met with a very obstinate woman. She does by the looks of things have a history of ill and dying horses, most usually through unexplained colic. However, she also has fields full of acorns which are accessible to the horses too.
 
Goldenstar this woman IS by all accounts committing AWA offences and she could be liable for prosecution. More than likely, depending on what they find there, she will be given time to rectify the situation (unless any are deemed to be suffering by a vet) and if she doesn't sort it then an investigation will go ahead.

have you seen this place then? are the acorns harmful? sorry i dont know anything about horses... i did see alot of ragwart in the fiedls at the end of the summer which i believe can be harmful, should i mention these things also when i call?

Yes mentain everything you have seen write it down before you ring so you don't miss anything.

DEFINATELY mention it. Mention everything you can that you think is wrong. Ragwort is poisonous to horses and causes liver damage. Acorns are highly toxic if eaten in large quantities. Not all horses will touch them but when they do they tend to keep eating them. This woman actually had a picture on fb with the comment regarding one of these rescue horses saying 'having a snack from the tree' or something to that effect - and it was acorns the horse was eating.
 
i have written everything down this evening so that when i speak to them i have everything clear but things like the acorns didnt mean anything to me so now i am wondering what else i should be telling them
 
Don't worry - all they need to know is what you have seen. Just be sure to mention the horse's poor body condition FIRST AND FOREMOST.
 
that is just beyond belief. ref: "horses having a snack". do they actually realise these things? surely if you own this many horses you would know things like this
