Does any one else find 'no time wasters' really put them off

I always read "readvertised due to time wasters" as "failed the vet".

Likewise "first to see will buy" = "I am desperate to get rid of the b*gger".

Probably unfair on my part!

Funnily enough after 2 viewings, leaving a deposit and the horse then failing the vet I got accused of being a time waster. Never mind that it cost me a fortune to get my own vet down (so glad I did really) and they found it to be lame on a circle on both fronts and pretty obviously to. I was still a time waster because I had ridden it a couple of time and they had taken it to another venue for me to try, not at my request, they offered.
In the long run it all worked out for the best but I certainly wasn't going back in a couple of weeks to buy it like they wanted so I was a time waster.

You would have thought that people wouldn't travel to see horses that are never going to be what they are looking for but we were amazed when selling recently. We had one travel 2 hours to see an ISH. They had seen videos flat, jumping poles & XC with 3 different riders. There were 8 photos on the ad. 4 generations of his breeding were on his ad. They had spoken on the phone about what he had done. When they arrived I showed them the passport while son got him out. "Oh, he's part TB, I don't want that" & that was it. At least it wasn't our time wasted. Apparently they were expecting a cob type, not an eventing type 3/4 tb. I can only assume they didnt actually look at the photos or the video because 3/4 tb was exactly what he looked like.

Your scenario is exactly what I have in mind. You were obviously genuine and I imagine gutted when the horse failed. How can that be time wasting? I'm sure some of the unscrupulous sellers would re-advertise without any mention of the failed vetting... this is what concerns me when I see the "readvertised due to timewasters" phrase. Good job I have no plans to buy another horse any time soon! :D

Yes it does.

I too went to see a horse, but wasn't suitable, was then slated for being 'a complete time-waster'.

Well, tough because the horse wasn't what I thought he would be!

So I avoid those now, if I'm shelling out a few grand, I'm going to be sure the horse is everything he/she needs to be.

Yes I find it very off putting but would try an initial approach. What I HATE is where people say no email or SMS. I cannot guarantee I will not phone at the most inconvenient moment to the seller and I'd hate to miss something I wanted because I'd caught them at a bad time. Equally I want retainable evidence of everything. They can answer in writing at any time that's convenient.
We did drive 2 hours to see a horse, liked it, and spent the night in our lorry on site, ready for a second viewing the next day. But by the morning we'd realised that said horse might prove difficult to sell on, if need be, as he was a Percheron X. We explained this to the yard owner/dealer ,naturally this could have come across as timewasting. But he then showed us a lovely Spanish mare that had not been advertised, we bought her to ride immediately, together with an unplanned for, almost matching yearling colt (swiftly gelded). Both are still with us, four years later.

It totally puts me off.
It tells me the vendor has an attitude problem thats likely to be transferred to how they have treated the horse.
If they want my money for their horse then they have to behave like buyers are customers.

My biggest put off is an advert that starts 'putting the feelers out'. I stop reading at that point. But yes I also interpret 'no time wasters' as 'unless you want to buy the horse instantly I will label you as one'

"Putting the feelers out" = "I don't really want to sell" ;)

I always think "still for sale due to timewasters" = failed vetting

Lol I thought the same!

Oh jeez, yes!
I have sold a couple of horses and bought. Some people will happily take on whatever, pass over the cash and get on with it quite nicely.
When looking I needed to be specific due to a very serious back problem I have. Ended getting on a lovely Arab X that reared when I asked it not to nap to the gate (multiple times). Got off immediately for my own safety and was slated by the owner for 'wasting their time' and 'i thought you wanted something with spark!?'.. erm, no.
On the other hand I have been the seller waiting hours or someone to turn up only not doing so. However I've never put 'due to timewasters...' People have their reasons, I figure if someone views my horse and walks away, it is for a damn good reason (to them). Besides, they are making the effort to at least come a view/ride the creature.

I must admit we once went to view a horse, thinking that really we would probably be 'timewasters'. A previous viewing had fallen through, leaving us with some spare time to see another horse. Found one that really wasn't what we wanted - too young and lacking experience in the disciplines we wanted. But from videos he looked like a nice horse with a good attitude, and we thought it would do my daughter good to try another horse (as she was coming off a pony). If we had not bought him, we would probably have fallen into the category of 'timewasters' as we went knowing he probably wouldn't be the right one for us. But as it happened, daughter and horse clicked instantly, and we ended up buying him. He's still with us six years later and we love him to bits!

My massive bug bear is people not putting prices on adverts particularly with all the adverts I see on Facebook with numerous comments asking for price inevitably responded to with "PM'd you" as a seller you know how much you are asking for the horse so just put it on the advert. I recently enquired about a lovely foal to be told it was £15K I would never have asked about it had that been on the advert as was way outside my budget, this is a waste of my time and the sellers. Even more astoundingly I enquired about the price of another foal and the sellers reply was to ask my budger - honestly my budget is irrelevant what is relevant is the price they want to achieve for the horse, that one irritated me so much that i proceeded no further as it just says to me the bigger you say your budget is the more likely they are to price the horse at the top end of that amount...

Sorry for the rant but this really annoys me..

I dislike this phrase also! Its like saying 'if you don't hand over your cash for this horse asap all correspondence with you is a waste of my time '. It just sounds rude. Honestly some adverts I've seen people make so many demands and negative comments I wonder do they actually want to sell the horse?!

Very off putting and just rude really. Not every horse is going to be the "one" - so if I go look and it isn't, does that make me a time-waster?

Agreed I find it quite an aggressive stance As you are spending a chunk of money it surely needs to be a horse/pony you are happy with .My horses stay with me and are retired when the time comes so of my 4 I have 2 in their 20's I want to be happy that my choice is right. Its almostsaying if you come you just better buy! and yes re advertised due to timewaster always says failed vetting to me.
