Mini shetlands? I put mine next to my gelding and he tried to stampede the fence and got his legs through trying to kick out. It was like he couldn't leave her alone! When I brought him in tonight past her field he was pretty much walking on my heels trying to get away!?! I've never seen anything like it. Why so aggressive if so frightened? I don't think my mini will be joining the herd any time soon! :(

I bought my son a shetland a few months ago. Two of the horses didn't bat an eyelid at her arrival, but one of the mares took a total dislike to her, tried charging at her, running her down, divebombing her etc. One swift boot from the shetland put paid to that, and the mare hasn't bothered her since :P

C A T S!!

Will not go near one. Spins and takes off in the other direction if he sees one! Not particularly funny when you are half way through a dressage test and the yard cat wanders past - cue exit left at great speed!!

luckily not, as my boy had one next to him to keep him company when on box rest, and they got along well.
my dog actually thinks my friends mini-Shetland is another dog! he always runs over him to play, and keeps trying, despite the mini attempting to bit and threatening to kick. silly dog, mind you he is a GSD, so not that much smaller than Rambo the mini

My cob mare was tied next to the box at a show. A small child dressed as an astronaut astride a teeny Shettie
decked out in cardboard boxes (masquerading as a spaceship) parked next door to us.
Blaze, who is pretty much bombproof, didn't bat an eyelid................. until the child's mother removed the 'spaceship' and revealed the small grey beastie beneath. Blaze promptly snorted, pulled back, snapped the lead rope and took off across the showground :D
She is even more terrified of donkeys!!

When 2 of mine first saw the donkeys, they fled to the furthest corner of the field, my 15 2 bully boy hid behind the 17 1 tb, the biggest woose walking, it took them 2 days, one step at a time to approach the dividing fence and no the field wasn't 50 acres, it is barely a paddock of approx quarter acre, so funny to watch though

Mine turns into a snorting dragon at the herd of little black shetlands about two miles from the yard. It doesn't help that one of them is a stallion and does stallion-y snorty, prancy, pawing things. That really freaks her out. The fact that I keep telling her she could squash him with a single draft cross hoof remains immaterial.

Yep .. my Boyo finds them the scariest monsters on the planet.

He threw a hissy fit three weeks ago when two of the monsters were being walked in headcollars. One jumped a step over gate and that was the last straw - cue Tank Off with poor human hanging on for all she was worth (think Thelwell cartoon  )

There are three Falabellas in a field at the end of our track - they hunt in packs of three, you know. Geoff reminds me on a regular basis. And Pony Club/ agri shows are hilarious because he finds small ponies terrifying.

I was at a show with my mini Shettie once and there was a massive 17.2hh+ heavyweight hunter that would only pass her by doing some kind of sideways piaffe movement complete with snorting sound effects :D Luckily the bloke riding it also found it rather amusing :)

There were 2 mini shetlands where we used to ride, and my lad was petrified of them, absolutely terrified. The first time we came across them he totally freaked, his back legs went from under him and his butt hit the floor (still to this day don`t know how i didn`t come off) he then shot back onto his feet and took off lol. I did manage to pull him up, and then i rode him back, got off, and tried to introduce them but he was having none of it. Didin`t matter how many times we rode that way, he was still scared witless of them.

He can be a bit spooky but does usually still listen and come back to me fairly quickly, but with these 2 it was out and out fear.

my aunts 18.1hh shire X hates sheltlands! when we hacked him alone the road for the fist time while passing a field of shetlands he jumped one side of a single track road to the other before promptly making his getaway :D i have the opposite problem with my horse everytime he sees a shetland he has to run towards it hoping its his long lost best friend :(
