Che really does seem to hate the rain he is a bit of a delicate TB anyway but when it rains he does his utmost to avoid getting wet. If he's in his field he normally runs to the trees in the corner and hides, head down, bum out, tail clamped firmly down. Last night I was schooling in the field and it started to rain quite heavily, he started bouncing, skipping sideways and trying to turn around, not nastily but just trying to turn his bum to the rain. He would happily walk backwards into the barn to stop his face getting wet if I let him. Does anyone else have a horse who behaves like this or do I just get the prize for the most precious TB ever!!

Current Danish chappy doesn't mind. However my daughter had a Welsh section B for many years who hated rain. We gave her a pampered life but she had lived out for 8 years before we got her!

Yep...my TB x hates getting wet...

He makes such a big fuss about it. Shivers and shakes, walks with his head cocked to the side, ears flat out to the sides, tail clamped down, head on the floor...slipping and sliding in the mud......and thats just in light rain

Its quite a revelation for me...I've had natives for the past 10 yrs and had forgotten how wimpy some horses could be

He'll live

...he came out of winter looking twice as well as he went into it so he can't be suffering too much...lol

Mine is a bit precious - lived his whole life in the driest part of southern Spain and now has to contend with northern weather. Stands out in the paddock, bum to the rain, head right down looking thoroughly miserable.

One of my geldings is such a pansy, stands at the gate screaming his rather large head off until i bring him in! Of course he probably does it out of habit now but i'd rather he was in nice, warm and dry than stood in a field shivering under a tree

Thats the other thing, I would happily bring him in and let him tuck into a nice big hay net in his lovely dry stable but he throws a paddy cos he would be the only one in and he can't cope with that either. I just can't win, silly boy. If it's still horrible tonight I will bring him in and stay with him till he dries off, then pop his light waterproof rug on and turn him back out, I tell you that horse is so pampered, I'm sure he appreciates me though

I think I have made mine into delicate creatures by giving them field shelters!

I have a pure TB and 2 Welsh x TBs and once it starts to rain all of them gallop flat out into the shelters.
The TB seems to have an uncanny knack of knowing when the rain is coming and will bolt into the shelter and 2 mins later the rain arrives. Most bizarre.

my little anglo arab mare hates getting her facw wet, it makes her cross
she stands with her head under one of the big horses

she spent the first 10years of her life living out all year round, all weathers, without a rug, shed never worn one till i got her...she must have been cross quite a lot

None of the horses here - a mix of tb's,natives and a wb - give a stuff about the rain, snow etc and are generally standing in the field grazing quite happily. Their owners on the other hand are normally running around in a flap that they don't like it - drag the horses in to their stable, rug them and turn them out just as the rain stops and then the poor horse near has heat exhaustion in its rug if the YO didn't then take it off!!

My tb is a delicate little flower who will shiver and shake with her teeth chattering. I have never seen anything like it.
It rained out on our hack today and she nearly had her head tucked under her chest.
In the field, even if it is light rain forecast, i put a rain sheet on her or she is just miserable.
All the others at my yard thought i was mad til they saw it for themselves. Poor little angel.

ets i didn't like it much myself today, i had gone out without a bra so it was a bit like a wet t shirt contest.

Murphy will dash for his field shelter at the first sign of rain,he is a real wimp. If it rains when he is out hacking he will walk with his head between his knees and try and turn his bum to the rein. However, bizarrely, he is almost at his best jumping at shows when it is raining and the ground is very muddy, think it is a legacy from his days as a field masters horse.
