Does anybody fancy valuing grandpa's old saddles?!

Hi,
Sorry everyone i know there have been a fair few saddle questions recently, returned the other day to post and BAM there were loads!

My grandpa has been insistent that i ride Ronnie in one of his saddles my mum used to ride in about 40years ago.... fat chance!

Of course according to old school 82 year old Grandpa 'one saddle fits all' and saddle fitting is 'a waste of good money and these will do just fine.'

I didn't want to upset him in the end and took the saddles and thanked him very much but now im wondering what they are worth if anything at all, maybe that i can contribute to new saddle fund?
Saddle 1 is probably about 15 years old looks more of a dressage saddle if anything and has obviously been used very rarely and in brilliant condition.
Saddle 2 i'm guessing is very very old jumping saddle (guessing because i don't know if they had different style saddles haha) It's well used and looks like it has been hand stitched! Must be 30yrs + at least :O

Thanks guys! And btw, thanks to everyones help the other day i put his neck piece to his turn out on for the first time and his mane is less elvis and laying nicely on one side

the second one looks very similar to one we had in the back of our shed, it wasnt in as good condition as yours & sorry i dont know the make or anything. I put mine on ebay for a start price of 99p & think i got about £25. I just wanted rid of it so wasnt really bothered what it sold for.
Hopefully (for your sake) i sold it for a lot less than it was really worth!

Sorry totally off the subject, but had to laugh at your second paragraph about old school horse men who believe one size fits all, im sure your Grandpa could be my father in law. he is exactly the same, saddle fitters, feeding anything other than Bran, oats and hay is just plain old wrong, and god forbid putting a rug on a horse, thats just bl**dy ridiculous..... Lol.

The first one is still a nice usable saddle that you should be able to p/x- it has to be worth £150 in such nice condition. Its not unusual not to have a makers name plate as ther were so many small workshops turning out bespoke saddles.
I would Ebay the second one for whatever i could get.

That's it!

He gets so bossy about it too and goes on and on about how Ronnie's diet is ridiculous! Apparently we should all be mixing up our oats and bran with linseed oil everyday for a good strong horse! It came as no surprise when he went on to say mums old pony was a naughty little sh*t

Saddle 1 looks like a VSD saddle and should sell on Ebay for you- is it a Fieldhouse?- before they were made abroad. Prob around the £200 mark, a saddler might be able to sell it for you for more, and may know the make.

Saddle 2- sorry no idea!

LOL at your comments re your Grandpa!!- I sort of agree in a way saddle fitters can be (but not always, esp if you are lucky to have a good one that you trust) money down the drain!, and yes Linseed Oil is fab!!

2nd one is an old Indian saddle - I would bin it!
1st one is ok, but not really of any value. We can't sell saddles like that for any money, but ebay is probably your best bet.
