a mare who is stressy and not one of the trust worthy and nice natured horses everybody is gushing about, but that you still love.

ive had my mare 4 months and been riding her for a year and a half. she loves all the riding we do together and places in every comp we go to.

some days ill go see her and shes ears back and bum round but if u keep your ground and talk to her she lets you into her world (and its wonderful).

i came back from a weekend away where my brother had been looking after her for me and she did the usual grumpy face and stressy but i waited a minute and she started rubbing her head on my hand and walking round the field with me.

some horses and not the perfect family horse and are not fine with kids but i just wanted to share that they are still wonderful in there own ways.

Not a mare but a big bolshy DWB who would bite you soon as look at you but if you understand that it's all a game and don't back off becomes the biggest softest most talented and safest (in a bizzarre way) horse I've ever owned... and the only grand prix horse I've ever met that you can stick a complete novice on and him not blow a gasket... yet you can get on him straight after and do all the party tricks..

I have a mare a bit like yours. Love her to bits. She knows me by sight and sound, was a witch when I got her and was very nappy. Now shes a sweetheart who will go anywhere I ask her to, is a silly spooky girl at 15yrs old, especially when we go to Dressage, and despite her breeding (Hanoverian/TB) coped with months of box rest last year like a dream. Well she does like her food! I do think mares have a special personality of their own and once you get into their world, are the sweetest creatures.

yes blitznbobs my mare will take beginers up to trot but after that it messes with her brain if they dont no what to do. she events to novice level be

thanks for making me feel like there others like our partnership out there

mines not the 'bitey / kicking ' type but more the I'll just walk over the top of you and kick my door down type, and if you try and stop me then I'll kick off ten times worse. :(
yet tonight she came in and had cuddles  strange hormonal creature! I have no idea where she gets it from

I know where mine gets it from - ME haha!

Totally have one, an Arab mare. She is so grumpy in the stable and she snaps at you when rugging up etc but ironically she is a joy to ride and easy in all other ways. And on the few occasions when she comes to me it feels so special, cos I know she doesn't find it easy.

Mares seem to make you work to earn their respect, but once you have it there is nothing better. Well worth the effort I reckon!
I love my little mare, nobody else likes her much (although they don't say it in front of me) but I think she's the mutt's nuts! :D
