I am trying to get a generator sorted to use with my horse box when i'm away over night. I know nothing about them so please forgive me if I ask A stupid question.

I have looked at a 3KVA one, Is this powerful enough, say for poss TV/microwave and most 13amp things. Is it too powerful ?. Does the power of the thing also mean it will use more fuel or is it just how much stuff you have plugged in.

Thanks

You can add up your power usage here. 3kva should be more than enough. It is a kettle that really uses the power. You could look at a solar panel that charges a battery pack (you will need an inverter). That way you don't have a generator brrrrrring away.

I live in a cottage that doesn't have mains electric (we are so far off the road) and have a 5kva lpg generator with inverter and battery pack. It runs the whole house :)

Yes 3 kva will run a kettle mircowave basicly anthing that plugs in to a normal house socket they dont use much fuel a couple of gallons for a weekend ...
However if you are looking at an indusrial type that is like a engine in a tube frame forget it they are far too noisey to use at a show everyone will hate you !!!and you will be asked to turn it off before you have boiled a kettle... you need a suitcase super silent type best is a honda EU20i there are cheaper chinese ones but parts can be difficult and they arnt as good... whatever you buy make sure you see and hear it working !! oh and you can get low wattage kettles and microwaves from caravan places so you only need a small genny ie a 2kva would be more than big enough.. hope that helps ...
