Does anybody not have horse insurance?

So my single pony insurance quote this year is ridiculous for a healthy unclaimed pony that does very little. I already have public liability through WHW. Thinking about just taking the risk and paying out of savings if the need ever arose.

Any thoughts?

I have 2 insured and the other has her own bank account as they would not insure colic anymore and cost was not the options

I cancelled my vets insurance a couple of days ago as it had gone up 30%, I hadn't claimed and couldn't find anyone else to beat my quote!

I have public liability and personal injury through Harry Hall as my mare is just for pleasure so is covered for everything I want to do.

I have a credit card and save £70 a month in a separate bank account

Two in field uninsured (have 3rd party) and won't be - I've rationalised in my own head what I would be prepared to pay out to a vet for them and it would no different if they were insured. Third I'm undecided on but won't look to insure yet as she had some foot related lameness issues very early in ownership and I need a decent period of no problems (verified by vet) to ensure I don't get some big exclusions. In the meantime I self insure. The premiums I did get for her were eye watering!

I don't insure but am in a fortunate position of having a sound financial position. I have just paid out over £2k and expect to have a further bill for £1k for a bruised pedal bone and this included MRI. I have always evaluated the horse on age, injury and prognosis as to how far I am prepared to go with the vets bill.

Used to have mine insured but after insurance company I'd been with for 20 yrs messed me about big time last year I cancelled both policies. My elderly horse has cushings & doesn't do box rest so it rules out me having anything, expensive, done with him that required long periods stabled. My young horse was referred once they accepted her issues weren't behavioral & started paying out, subsequently found multiple issues with legs & back so I decided once they'd finished paying out to cancel & I suspect anything that's wrong with her they'll just try & link to the current problems & again I wouldn't put her through surgery, extensive treatments or box rest so seemed more sensible to cancel & just put the money away instead.
