Does anybody NOT insure their horse?

Good question. I have a 13 yr old mare with 3 legs exempt from insurance now and was wondering whether to stop with the £35 (minus death or loss of use) its costing me monthly .....

Meant to add that the insurance has worked out well worth it as 6 months after having her she went lame with bilateral bone spavin and has had 3 lots of steroids and ethanol injections, hospitalisation and lots of expensive painkillers and lameness work ups. Now though, both back legs are exempt as it's been a year of treatment.

I got a fantastic hubby.

He said HE will pay 400 per month into the insurance bank account for 1 year . after that year i start paying half which is the 200 per month he will match it with 200 per month .
i was paying insurance companies. This account will pay for ANY of the animals . So if we dont make a claim before the year is up there is 4800 and it will go up and up.

So lucky to have such a wonderful man :D

:D:D:D sorry only a sister.

to those who cant do it . There is nothing stopping you opening a bank account and starting one albeit very small then once you have a base in case of emergencies then you could stop and pay the account instead of insurance companies , worth a thought

Neither of mine are insure, one is nearly 26 so no one will insure him for everything, I put what i would be paying each month (a little more if i have some going spare) into a savings account. It soon adds up :)

i have two and none are insured. My tbs renewal came through end of july and nfu wanted £600 a year and that wasnt including his exclusions either! I have clamed just short of 5k in the last year so have prety much claimed all the money back i have given to nfu over the last 4 years. He doesnt have alot left to claim. i have claimed for navicular, ks and bone spavins.

My 8 yr old mare will be competing as of the new year so she will be insured with kbis for 3.5k of vets fees and i will put money into savings for my tb who is now only in light work.
As bad as this sounds, my dog will be insured as she has slightly diformed front legs so i am expecting her to have arthritis at a young age... her pelvis and hips are excluded though as she got stood on by one of the neds and dislocated and chipped her hip.

Another 1 here who has BHS gold membership - and a bank account & credit card for emergencies.

I put aside £100 per month into the horse bank account & keep it at £3k which is enough to cover an op if necessary.

Also means I have the decision to PTS etc, not an insurance co.

I too have a seperate savings account...most Ins Comp won't insure an equine passed pubity let alone a 30 yrs young mule :D
