live in a caravan/mobile home all year round??

currently live with o/h and his folks on farm, get on well with his parents but its hard work and I feel we would fall out if stayed there much longer to be honest....plus need our own space. but we dont wanna really move away as oh business on farm etc etc..

so thinking of a large tourer or a static?#

but worried about coldness in winter etc...any experience??


in the future we are looking to build another house in couple yrs so wouldnt be for a lifetime!! :)
 
If it was for a couple of years, until you build a nice house in your ideal location.
Then yes I would.

If there were no end in sight, it could be depressing, cold and claustrophobic!
 
I couldn't do it, but I value drainage, brick walls and general creature comforts.

Just think, how much do you value your home comforts, and think realistically if you could deal with it.
 
If its the two of you a big static would be ok as long as you plumb it in has drains and mains electric .
You need to be able to wash and dry laundry somewhere else .
We have a big static on the beach you could easily live in it.
They are cold in winter but they have gas heating now a days or you can use oil filled heaters on thermostats newer ones are double glazed.
They are best if you can put some sort of porch on them so you keep wet stuff out of them .
You would need planning permission .
 
It depends on the mobile home frankly. the ones you see at the seaside aren't really suitable for long term living. They are hot in summer and cold in winter and the condensation is a problem. However I saw one that looked like a log cabin which was fully building regs compliant as well as being classified as a mobile. It was in a smallholding magazine (in smiths now) I believe it was Norwegian company. I'd seriously look further into one of those.
 
I guess it would depend upon your budget to buy a static.... As there's a huge difference between an old basic static and some of the new luxury caravans!

I lived in one for sometime yrs ago... I was constantly cold and had a draught!!

Ours is the a classic alloy caravan and you certainly could live in it .
It cost £ 8000 having been traded in to ideal caravans for a new one great condition I have given it a make over and it's really comfy now .
It's much much warmer than our old one and came with gas central heating which we have taken out as there's no mains electric where we have it sited .
If you go for it get a twelve foot wide one I do think you can get even wider and one with a pitch roof as it makes them feel much more house like .
We had fun looking at new ones when we where looking for one to buy some even have baths in them now .
 
Hi, We lived in a large tourer for almost 2 years until we bought our business, it is a German made Hobby caravan. They are very well insulated and as we were on caravan sites with electric we had an oil filled radiator for heating, one with a timer so you could set it to come on and off like central heating. There can be a problem with condensation, mainly in the storage cupboards so its best not to fill them too much so the air can circulate a bit. I can honestly say I was never cold and although compact we managed, OH,DD, dog & cat. I did say I wouldn't want to do it again as it was lovely moving into a house and being able to turn the taps on and not have to go and fill the water tank up again, then two years later our home and business were flooded so the caravan came back into service for another twelve months! :)

wow! welldone!! I always used to love caravan holidays so maybe we can. uncle has a big 22ft tourer with end fixed bed so we may have that!
 
Yeah I've lived in two over the last 4.5yrs...our house never seems to get built.....currently me and hubby with two dogs and a toddler.

but to be honest, it ain't so bad! We specifically chose an open plan one for our 'upgrade' as the other was a very odd layout...fine for holiday, bad for life! All the naff caravan fixtures have been ripped out and replaced with 'normal' furniture, including toilets, sinks etc. so it's just like a small house. We have drainage, power shower etc. Forget gas (expensive & damp-problem-creating), a stove is a must! We also just spent £300 on a 'dyson hot' heater, but it's worth it's weight - pricey to run, but replaces two/three smaller heaters and circulates the hot air from the stove so the whole place is warm and dry.

I like being able to clean the whole thing top to bottom in just 2hrs.
