Does anyone actually feed mixes anymore?

I can't remember the last time I purchased a bag of mix. All mine had "added sugar/molasses" removed from their diets years ago. Unmollassed chaff, grass nuts and micronised linseed are fed according to the animal now. Barley rings were amazing when I fed them to an ex-chaser for condition.

Some people seem to confuse the fact that their horse needs more energy given through feed rather than getting it fitter for the job it is being asked to do.
 
Mostly not although I have a very old cob to care for and he gets as much of wht ever food he can eat to maintain his weight sometimes its topped up with cheap mix as he likes it. Mine are all fed a variation on a theme of grass nuts grass chaff and linseed
 
I feed 16+ to spud purely because its the only feed i ever found he would eat turmeric with and doesn't blow his mind (which is strange considering its basically all sugar) but condidtion cubes made him a nut and he wouldn't eat balancer. I just about have him eating 3/4 chaff to 1/4 mix with the turmeric but some days there is too much chaff and he won't eat it.
 
I used to feed D&H. The Pasture Mix is misnamed really. It was equivalent to the Country Competition Cubes. Or were they called Hunter Cubes I cannot remember? The Pasture Cubes were equivalent to the Leisure Mix and the highest energy feed was the Country Competition Mix. I fed the latter to a horse working hard.

At the moment I feed molasses chaff and own brand low energy cubes started because when you need to get meds into fat horse at grass who are not in the least bit hungry it needs to taste good. They are part stabled now but I kept the same feed because it is only a handful of each and none is ever wasted.

You beat me too it, Sadly the majority of people on here are judgemental and not particularly nice. They all seem to think the are better than other people too.

I feed cool mix to both mine and B is 27yo and according to the vet that saw him on Friday, (not our usual vet, who's on holiday) he is in fantastic shape. She was only out to see how well he was healing after twisting his fetlock being a prat in the field. Racing his friend up the hill!

You beat me too it, Sadly the majority of people on here are judgemental and not particularly nice. They all seem to think the are better than other people too.

I feed cool mix to both mine and B is 27yo and according to the vet that saw him on Friday, (not our usual vet, who's on holiday) he is in fantastic shape.

Yes I sadly have to agree with you there. There are some that like causing upset and go out of their way to create conflict and dissension to maximum affect without thinking about the consequences of how much it hurts others.

You must be doing something right if your horse is 27! :)

I am not a novice or ill educated. I feed Releve as one of mine has EPSM and he does really well on it. Please don’t generalise and assume everyone else is ignorant. You need to do what is best for your own horses. It has taken me many years to find a product that keeps him well and not tying up. The other two get Healthy Hooves Molasses free as it suits them well. All horses have different needs as do humans.

I keep a bag of havens slobbermash floating about - definitely a mix and I’ve never met a horse , dog, chicken , mouse ,rat that didn’t love it... I feed it when I need to get something particularly disgusting into one of them or for teaching loading etc as a high value reward... I feed hifilight and a Lo cal balancer...
