So, good night check at 9pm last night at which time full neck under rug and stable rug (no neck) all in position. 7am and stable rug on floor, all buckles and surcingles done up as they had been last night just no longer on pony. Pony at home so no chance of someone with warped sense of humour having a giggle. No rips or signs of a struggle on rug or pony, just one very puzzled mother.
Anyone else had this experience? Hopefully someone with cctc in the stable lol!!!

Yes, seen them do it.

One of my liveries does this, grabs the front of his blanket and pulls, and pulls, leg straps stretch, he steps through the belly straps so that everything is now neatly around his neck. Head goes down, blanket slides off, elasticated leg straps are about as much use as a chocolate fireguard at keeping the blanket in place, although I suppose it proves that in an emergency they wouldn't be much of a hindrance.:)

Crikey! Unless you live within the Arctic circle, I'd guess pony was too hot!

Only thing is this rug doesn't have elastic leg straps/surcingles, belly straps but I can only imaging he must somehow manoevre the rug forward and step through, i'm still amazed by this feat of escapism!!! lol

Oooh you took this thread right out of my brain! :D
My niece's horse doesn't escape from rugs but she can slip out underneath the door bar as fast as you can blink! It's crazy, I've still never actually seen her do it, one minute she's in the stable and the next she's making for the field/sugarbeet! It's like she doesn't even travel through the interviening space she's that quick!:D

Yes my horse takes some containing, the day I went to try him, we met him
being led down the lane, having ditched his rider, he was put into a stable and held, I offered to shut the door and was told , no point, b*gger will be out, (not the horses owner).
He is not quite as bad now, he will loosen his lead rope/door and stay in the vicinity, I think he just likes to keep his hand in
