Does anyone have any ideas on how to stop my left hand being so busy when riding? It's got a mind of it's own and I really struggle to keep it still! Anytime anything goes wrong my left hand tries to fix it. Bar chopping it off does anyone have any ideas about how to keep it well behaved like the right hand? sounds daft I know but so frustrating and it's hampering our progress. Behaves better in lessons but reverts back when we are on our own. Help!!

I have a naughty hand!! My left hand keeps lifting the pinky finger above the rein!! Obviously I never ask it to!:o (I think it my might be a subconscious act when my L rein get a little long.)

As for your prob - In the past I have tried riding with a small stick (a showing cane is perfect, or a nice straight stick from a tree!) across the top of my hands, just held by hooking my thumbs over it. This will help to keep your hands as a pair, it may also "alert" your right hand when your left hand goes AWOL subconsciously!

yeah I know

You could try riding with a whip between both hands so that they have to work as a pair or hooking your thumb through a strap on the d rings

I was always told by my friend I have a naughty right hand as it was always further forward and constantly fiddling. I got a body protector for Xmas and actually found out it's my right shoulder that causes it! After riding in my bp a few times I realised my whole shoulder collapses, which sends my hand shooting forwards, and my body is effectively twisted, a few more times and I'm training it to fall back again.
My boss (instructor) says it's due to many injuries to my left shoulder and left side of neck, I've messed up my posture for pain saving! So it's comfy to hold my left side correctly and my right side to slouch! Worth checking with an osteopath/chiro to see if it's injuries or pain causing your hands to do naughty things!

Not something to try out hacking, may get some funny looks :) but my old instructor once arrived with 2 plastic wine glasses, filled them with water and made me ride arround with one in each hand with my reins and said I mustnt spill any! Makes you keep your hands up and still :)

Lol I have a naughty left hand too it has a mind of it's own if fact I have a naughty left leg (due to bad injury) too that seems to do what the he'll it wants when it wants, I've found that riding with a stick helps as someone said above helps and with my leg if I ride without stirrups it's fine lol
