Does anyone else not really / not really want to ride?

TBH I don't really get this about other people. As much as I love my pony I would never bother driving the 20 mins to see him unless I was going to ride. I enjoy being around him but unless there is a purpose to the journey I wouldn't make it. Grooming is perfunctory and I never waste time in the yard, would rather speed to the fun riding part, spend time on that and then speed home to my husband after.

Why buy a horse, then? Just pay for lessons, would surely be an awful lot cheaper. If I don't ride, I spend lots of time with him still. He's my 'big dog' as the OH calls him. :)

No way. I ride every day at least once and twice 4 or 5 days a week. I love my horses and would still keep them if they couldn't be ridden but i'd want at least 1 in work.

To be honest whilst I have always enjoyed riding and competing through the years I have always prefered it on the ground playing with babies or horses that needed that ground work - dont get me wrong I love riding but the day to day care the playing and ground teaching as always been my first love

Thank you for everyone's replies loved reading them :) I do enjoy riding but i really enjoy all the bits and pieces and spending time with them - i think it is this way because i have had Blue so long - we had so much fun in the past & tried a bit of everything, now i think we are both happy pootling around :D ah i dunno i just love hanging around them lol :) and soon he will be outside my back door yay :D
