Does anyone else not use travelling boots??

Always use them. I have the more shaped MT ones, so they don't slip. Am still thanking God he had them on last weekend when something spooked him in the lorry, he went potty and kicked the partition so hard it cracked and splintered right through. Still thinking how lucky we are that he didn't put his foot right through it, but if he had done so without boots, we would almost certainly have lost him, as it would have ripped his leg to shreds. All I need to replace now is the partition, not my horse!
 
No have used them but they upset her she wouldnt load, dont use them now just a tail guard, i do have cctv in my trailer so can see what she is upto
 
April couldn't stand travel boots when I first started taking her places. I have tried soft ones in the past and she is awful in the box if they slip. I think it annoys her so much she tries to get them right off. I would arrive places with her all sweaty and it wasn't worth using them.

I travelled without for a while but then she stood on herself, and although it wasn't serious - it wouldn't have happened if she had been wearing boots.

I then though that perhaps if I tried some very sturdy ones that wouldn't slip it would be better and with recommendations from HHO, I bought the rigid MT ones to try. I put them on in the stable and walked her about for ages in them.
They really don't move and she has been great in them. If she hadn't liked them and was still bad to travel I would just go without but I prefer her to have something on.

it's so hard to know what to do for the best sometimes. I just trial and error things until I get a solution that works for us

I don't!!! too easy for them to step on and pull down. Chloe travels fine and doesn't need them - I did put them on her once and she banged away for half and hr. Travels much quieter without them.
 
Hi

I would always use travelling boots with the treads that cover the hoof too, treading and the knees are at risk during travelling. When we were travelling locally we used to put the dressage bandages on over wraps then put the boots on top of these, it saves trying to bandage an excited horse at a competition!

The only time I travelled a horse without on hills we ended up with capped hocks it took 10 months for them to go down. The horse must be accustomed to wearing them before being asked to travel in them.
 
Always use bandages.

Ive got one that climbs on the lockers, one that stamps like sh!t and treads on himslef, and one that is huge so put them on in case he bashes his legs!
 
My horse travels really badly if she's travelled with boots on so I now use bandages. Her boots used to slip down and just be a pain to travel her in them.
 
No I never use travel boots. I also travel my horses loose (legal in my country).

When I had our mare flown over the Atlantic to join us, the shippers told me it was far better to NOT boot her. She then travelled a long distance from the States to Canada without boots.
 
I don't use them either. This seemed like an even more sensible decision when someone I knew ignored a lot of banging around in the back of his wagon until he reached his destination (yes he is a plonker). Turned out his horse had got a travel boot caught on the bolt of the partitian and ripped part of its hoof off!
