Am really missing riding lately, my 9 year old mare is in foal (due in 4 weeks) and I haven't ridden since a couple of months before she was first covered so thats been over a year.

My other horse is only 3½ and only lightly backed by my lightweight son, I won't ride her as she is only young and although stands a good Middle Weight and 16hh I still feel I am too heavy for her and don't want to hurt her back.

Can't wait now for my foal to be born and for it to get old enough so I can have a plot around on my mare again, haven't really missed the riding until the last 3 or 4 weeks.

I really am the ultimate in unpaid grooms at the moment :D

Yep meeeeee!!!

Well just under a year. Retired old boy in December 09 and bought a foal as a companion for him in his retirment. They are both very happy spending all my money ;)

I do get to school my friend's daughters pony tho so get to have some riding. :)

Nearly! I rode in May 2009, then 3 times in Dec 2009 for my stage 1 exam. Then nothing until my youngster went up to Janet George's in April for backing. I went up to ride him once in June and once earlier this month. I own 5 horses! Utterly ridiculous really, but I have a similar problem to you in that my main riding mare has a foal at foot.

I think after more than 20 years of riding regularly, I got a bit bored of it and needed a break. Like you, I'm now looking forward to getting back into it. Don't worry, once the foal arrives you won't even have time to think about it!

Yes - 3 I think......TB with a leg - we will start on him again in Sept. Pony with a buck....we will start on him in Sept again (as rider has grown, and might sit his bucks now) and fat pony who we drag out once a year to do the local Gymkhana - where he always deposits a small child on the floor, whilst doing the games......but we use him as a nanny for the pointers when they go racing.........

Well unless you count the horse I went to try last november which threw me off rather unceremoniously breaking my hand in the process, yes its been over a year.

I have 2 horses, one retired due to ringbone and her companion who is actually on loan as a companion (insurance write off). I have a dilemma as I don't really want 3 but am attached to the companion and don't want to send him back. I would buy a 3rd though if the right horse came along (can't face actually looking though, so might take a while lol). I do miss it, but have been so busy with my own business working weekends and all hours that it hasn't been as bad as I expected
