Does anyone else practice their dressage tests in their living room? Feel a little daft but no arena and frozen field so what is a girl to do. Have just entered a team for our RC area drsg next weekend and now have 2 tests to learn/practice. So just hoping someone else does this too.

I always manage to get the right canter strike off but am still not straight down the centre line. My free walk is very good though.

My friends and I at uni were all competing on the same day so we took it in turns to prance around the living room, with everyone else watching to make sure we were doing it right

You can imagine what my friend's non-horsey boyfriend made of it all!
 
Yep... although mine is in my basement with my dog as the judge.

I have to say, I find the collected work quite hard to differentiate in the elems tests

on subject of uni my friend had her bridle etc in our house for tack cleaning, at 2am in the morning one of my other housemates brought some non horsey friends back all I heard was 'wow, who is into the bondage' and I don't think she corrected them.

Thankfully no where near canter pirouettes yet, pony would have a fit if I mentioned that, stick to the walk ones!

If I do too much medium trot I do seem to hit the end of the room a bit quick! I have a small outdoor space in my flat but then have to be careful don't get stuck in the washing line.
 
Was just reading this out to OH (to prove to him that I'm not the only one!) and he made two comments...

1. You must have a blooming great living room if you can get your horse in there!

2. It puts a whole new meaning on "Deep pile" carpet, doesn't it?
 
I do!! we always do, the night before once everything else is scrubbed and polished!

my trot work is pretty good, but my canter is all over the shop and quite on the forehand... walk is ok, and my centre lines usuallly only get a 5!
 
Blimey! You must have big living rooms? How do you get your horse in? Through the patio doors?

Even better was when we practiced our 12-member Ride to Music display for the RDA fundraising BBQ a couple of years ago! 12 of us prancing round the yard singing and doing horseless "red arrows" and 12-horse "wheels" was something to behold!
 
I practice my tests on anything that is rectangular shaped, whether it be at work with a sheet of A4 paper, or at home with a packet from a ready meal, the rug in the lounge, the wardrobe mirror, anything that is that rectangular shape I will practice it. First I break down the test so I learn 1-7 movements and then after I've learnt them I learn 8-12 or whatever. Then I learn it backwards! I try to tell myself that usually the one half is a mirror image of the other so it should be very hard to forget the test but I have forgotten about four tests out of about 50 so I have not done too badly. I have never had a test read out for me, I think I would start to panick!
