If not try it and see, Ive spent £££ on de-tangling sprays etc, and a friend recommended mr sheen and now everyone on the yard uses it, great for muddy winter tails, or giving your horses tail a mega shine in summer!!
I have used it in the past. Gives exactly the same result as canter m+t but i cant help wondering if it does their tails any good. Im sure its fine, was going to ask about this the other day! It was a tip from a friend, she also said about using pimsol whitener instead of chalk, seemed to work really well, but again what is it like for their skin???
When i was little most of the modern products wern't readily available so for shows and things i used to use:
Lenor fabric softner in the final rinse water
trainer whiterner on all white bits
black shoe polish on black hoves
'blue bag' in the rinse water for greys
My ponies were like a walking hardware store!
I can't belive i didn't know about the furniture polish.
At last! People always thought I'm nuts to use it - I've got so inhibited I stopped. Now I find other people do too.
I did hear that one can still get blue bags nowadays - do you remember the first time you thought "I'll just get him extra white" and ended up with a blue tinged pony or with blue streaks? I was heartbroken when I did it.
I have heard that if too muh silicone gets on the tail it cause the hair to brake off so may not be much good in the long run unless you have a really thick tail. However the majority of show products also include silicone so Mr Sheen can't be any worse than the others!
I use 'Fly Away' Sparkle spray - it's cheaper than the Supreme sparkle, and it's just as good. And it's designed to be used on horses, not the dining room table.
You know, reading threads on here a large majority of people help and are very nice. When your trying to give them tips to save money or asking them advice on something. And i'm getting sick to death of the few coming on making sarcastic comments and making this forum un-enjoyable to use. I've not been using this forum long and i've had so much help of the considerate and kind people out there in the horse world and it's such a shame it has to be ruined
Yes have used Mr Sheen for years now!! Although i haven't done anything with my two's tails for a while now they need to be washed and plaited up for the Winter but i'm lazy and haven't got round to doing that yet!!
I stopped using Mr Sheen on furniture because of the silicone build-up, I suppose as long as it is washed out of tails regularly it can't do much harm. I would personally be wary about using any product that contained silicone, whether it was intended for horses or not.
I don't think Janette was being rude or sarcastic - just stating why she preferred to use a certain product on her own horse.
I don't know anything about the safety of using furniture polish on horses so can't comment on that, but I do think we have to think carefully about the products we use on horses. I wouldn't use something on my horse just because it was recommended on an internet forum - I'd want to check out that it was safe first.
Edited to add - I have found an interesting thread on another forum that discusses the use of furniture polish on horses:
Hey there, I was told to use it and then platt the tail and you can run a comb straight through it. It was a fab idea but then my horse started acting weird snorting everytime I used it
I put it down to the smell
So now I use mane and tail conditioner more expensive but he's ok with that.

I use it very occassionally if Ive run out of usual Coat Shine. I do tend to use baby oil mixed with water though sometimes. Dont use pure baby oil like some people as it builds up and I think it feels horribly greasy!
I do!! As part f our driving club we had a vet come in and talk to us, he was said to use it as it had the same chemical in as m + t and was far cheaper!!

Who was being sarcastic? Completely missed that...
Unless it was the comment about the horse smoking? Oh, hang on that was you! (that made me laugh BTW so I'm NOT having a go at you
