Find it odd when people refer to their horse as 'it', rather than him or her?
I'm just asking out of curiosity because in 25yrs of working with and owning horses, i've only ever heard two people refer to their beloved horse as it! Obviously you have the right to call your horse what you want, theres no right or wrong, i just think it sounds strange.

my sister used to kill me for calling her son 'it'..i havent a clue why i did cause im mad about the child! i didn't even know i was doing it till she said 'we have to have a serious talk about your issue with my child'... i went 'Whaaatt?' because i didnt know i was even doing that. the conversation finished very amicably until i accidentally said ' its fine, anyways it's too young to realise what im calling it'...opps!

I don't like it, seems disrespectful, but the people I know who do this aren't generally the type that I have much in common with anyway. My YO's, past and present, vets, dentists, saddlers etc haven't done it and the only people I can recall doing it tend to be young, I-want-to-be-taken-seriously-and-know-everything girls.

i refer to my own and other horses i know as him or her but when answering posts on a forum if i can't remember what sex the horse is then it's easier to say it as it's less insulting (in my opinion!).
