My 5yr old mare sulks when she knows i want to tack her up..last night was the worst; she sniffed the saddle and stood in the corner of the stable and just looked so pityful! Blinking her eyes at me and sighing. I put the bridle on and she just closes her eyes. She's a funny thing, as soon as i get on, she loves it and is very willing, it's just the bridle, doesn't bat an eye lid at the saddle.

Ive had her teeth checked and all is fine.

Makes me feel bad though:(

Strangely enough my horse, who is normally quite moody, looks happy when I get the saddle out. But I only ride 2/3 times/week so maybe that's why!

Yip my mare does exactly the same, especially if i ride first thing in the morning.. lol she is soo funny to watch.. looks at her tack.. turns her head and tries to hide in the corner.. lol when the bridle goes on she closes her eyes and pretends to sleep.. lmao.. doesnt work though.. much to her disgust.. we all laugh about it on the yard..

My lad has a complete strop, untill all tack is on and the door is open then he is fine, ride for 10 mins another smaller strop then all is well, normal pattern

My mare is sulky and stroppy when I tack up in the evenings because she clearly thinks she's coming in for supper/bed and not to work. She's not much better when I'm on - in fact evening riding is a disaster.

During daylight hours she's a completely different horse!

The mare I had before would actually look excited and whinny when she saw me coming with the tack...she loved to be ridden.

The mare I have now, when she was being ridden, would visibly sag when I came round with the tack

...would stop and just stand for a bit after 20mins as if to say 'I really don't think so'..then she would carry on brilliantly!!! Anything that was 'work' was not top of her list as ways to spend her time!!!We say if she misbehaves now just bring the tack back out as a warning to her!!!!

As soon as bear sees the headcollar come out he knows he's going to get attention and he puts his nose in it! He loves going out, especially when theres a show on.

Sometimes when I go to catch my mare she gives a sulky look as if to say leave me alone. Her daughter (10 months) did it last week when we were catching her in the yard. My dad and I just laughed at her cos it was soo like her mum,

My horse used to do exactly the same thing and only through something else I had his back and hips scanned. I then was told not to ride hime anymore. He was older though and apparently had damaged his sacrel joint in his previous life of hunting and one day eventing before I had him. He only did this in the last year I know believe he must have been in pain even though when ridden you wouldn't have known. So I would always err on the side of caution and maybe get his back checked.

Old boy I used to ride would turn round and put his head in the corner of the stable leaving his bum facing you when he saw the tack, he rode fine once out and would fly everywhere bless him.
