As title really

had a great lesson last night apart from the fact I was soaked to my bra by the time we had finished, but my instructor couldn't believe how much more ....hmm whats the word aimiable maybe she was going last night in comparison to normal! I said it was the rain she just laughed at me, until she noticed that going into the rain the work we got out of her was much much better than riding out of the rain. she just seemed to carry herself better !!

Anyone else experianced this ??

Yes!! Very lazy horse I rode on Tuesday when it was wet and windy, was suddenly pinging around all over the place! Never known him so forward going - really off the leg and some lovely lateral work :)

when ever any of my horses trot in to the rain they always hold themselves pretty but they are only trying to hide from it lol. other then that, nope mine hate the rain :(

I used to love riding my old share Horse in the rain, Especially hacking as he was much more forward and I didn't have to use as much leg (he was usually a little on the lazy side).

just a thought but is your school surface deep at my old yard the school had quite a deep surface and when it rained the horses went better on it than when it was dry

Definitely, and I prefer riding in the rain too - I'm much much more confident, no idea why - kind on a chicken and egg situation I guess, do my horses go better because I am more confident, or am I more confident becasue they go beter?!

Not Kal - he HATES it - but then he hates getting his face wet - sponging his ears off after he's gotten sweaty in the school requires elastic arms - how he ever went hunting with his previous owner I'll never know!

Kal turns himself inside out when it rains - we get piaffe, half pass, rein back - all without asking and all as a way of trying to turn himself round/not go forward INTO the rain. If it rains when he's out in the field he either shoves his head so far up someone else's backside that you can't see his face, or he stands at the gate looking mournful and pathetic.

Loves the snow though.

Good thinking but not the case as it has rained pretty much every day here for a week so our surface is pretty much as firm as it gets! including all day yesterday apart from the first 10 mins of my lesson the next 35 it lashed down until we gave up !

mine does but i think its because if he does whats asked we finish our sessions quicker. He does carry himself differently i wouldnt say better as he is usually bent away from the rain. However the wind certainly brings out the racehorse in him. iv ridden once this week and until the wind dies down/we can go back in school i will not be getting on!! spinning, leaping, rearing, galloping off sideways are not fun on a horse who is only meant to be relaxed and doing stright lines!!
