Like he wants a wee but doesn't go? Almost lamanitic sort of stance but hind legs back too. he is under vet and on bute at the moment. Awaiting blood test results. He has got a bad back. Any ideas? No digital pulses. Not overweight. Muzzled on grazing. Never had full lami but had one footy week in the summer so been muzzled as a precaution since.

my boys pony stands like this all the time, she is comfortable and nothing wrong. In fact just before she was turned out today she was standing like a rocking horse.

I would not worry unless she shows lameness of uncomfortableness

It sounds as if he is trying to get comfortable and relieve pain in some way whether the sore back is the cause or a symptom needs to be looked into, bloods will show if the kidneys are an issue, have you involved a physio yet? that would be my next move once the vet has ruled out anything medical.

How old is the horse and how long have you had him? It is a symptom of EPSM, caused by muscle pain in the hind quarters, but if you've had him a while you should also have noticed poor performance and tiredness..

My friends horse was the same as you describe ,rocking horse stance he would dribble small amounts of urine or could stand stood out for a long time and pass no urine ,we thought he had back pain he actually had bladder stones.
Maybe have a look on Google ,hope this helps.

at my old yard we had an old boy who developed an issue the same as Shergar. He was constantly dripping urine in the end and it was actually burning his skin despite barrier creams. The vets were stumped despite investigations. He was pts in the end as he had lost his quality of life. However he was 27yrs old which considering he was a retired 17.2h hunter was a very good age
