Does anyone feed Magnesium?

The cheapest way to feed magnesium is to buy calmag in a 25kg bag from an agricultural merchant. The last bag I bought cost £15. Most horses will eat it. I fed just under the amount that turned their wee cloudy. For mine that was a 15ml scoop. Others feed a lot more.
.
The downside with feeding CalMag versus purer versions of magnesium oxide that are white and 95% pure, is CalMag contains lots of impurities mainly Iron

Be very careful adding magnesium. I was advised to do so and finished up with a broken shoulder and hand. It made my very hot boy, almost unrideable. Having spoken with my vet and running tests he didn't need any extra magnesium. I am now so careful on what i feed.
I’ve heard that before, maybe not to that extreme but I think maybe it was Rowreach that told me to try cutting it because it causes some to react badly.

Oh no! Ive never heard this and everyone i know that uses it has had really good results - I can only try i guess!
It's what I said before about the magnesium/calcium balance. Without knowing for sure, you are low in magnesium it may cause issues.

However as most grazing in the UK is low, this is more likely than low in calcium.

Also bear in mind what other supplements you are feeding as I was looking at someone's labels and they were feeding 4 products that contained magnesium.

I am feeding Spillers Lite & Lean Balancer which contains 0.6% Magnesium.

It annoys me when companies present info like that. You need so much more information and calculations to know how much that really is.

Is that active magnesium or is it magox or chelate
Is that % by weight
Is the 0.6 percentage of minerals or overall balancer
How much does a daily scoop weigh
The you work out how many mg there are in the scoop and from there the actual magnesium delivered.

This is just the first option I came to from Progressive Earth to show how to present information so people know exactly how much of everything is delivered
