does anyone feed their horse all year round?

yep, i always feed everything 2 feeds a day, all year round (3 feeds if they really need it), just balancer and a handful of graze-on or hi-fi for the good-doers, more if they need it. i like the baby horses to look forward to seeing me and this is a good way of ensuring it, too!

All of mine even the minis are fed all year round, I do however halve the feeds in the summer. They also get haylage as they come in at night mostly.

They have various supplements being old, stupid or needing a bit of shine so it makes sense to give them a little feed even if its a token.

Yes.

The oldie (33) because he finds it very hard to keep weight on.
The mare as she's 'itchy' - not sweet itch but she's very sensitive so has some cubes to add d-itch, garlic etc to. This year she's still having a little mix as well as nearly-a-yearling is still with her.
The cob because he works quite hard and, rather surprisingly, hasn't yet started putting on grass weight.

Summer feeds are different to winter ones though, both in quantity and content.

It's also a good way of getting them to come over (they're all out 24/7 now!) to be checked twice a day.

Mine are, but obviously much reduced when out on good grass. Chancer needs supplements for itching and keeping a show coat, and Cairo has supplements for his old age problems.

To give them their supplements, I just give a small scoop of lucie stalks and a tiny amount of very sloppy speedibeet to damp it all down plus the essential couple of sliced carrots.

For me the little feeds are when I pick out feet, spray, change any rugs and give them a once over if not bringing them in.
