My cairn terrier (now aged 10) was diagnosed about two years ago with Dry Eye and has drops for this. His litter mate brother does not have the problem. What I have noticed is that the dog with the eye problem also gets a lot of build up on his teeth, resulting in needing a descaling EVERY year. The vet seems to think it may be something to do with lack of saliva. Could there be some connection between lack of fluid in the eyes and lack of fluid in the mouth?
Does anyone elses dog suffer with these problems?

my dog doesn't

however we did do some work on this before the summer holdiays (not an expert just have learnt a bit)

I don't think there is a common connection between the two, however it would not be too outthere to assume that there was a slight connection!

sorry, its a bit of a pain of a problem isnt it!

Me neigbour's Boston terrier was diagnosed with this last year. The dog came from a pet shop and has a veritable list of problems, but that's a whole other story. The dog is three-years-old and needs drops in both eyes four times a day. As far as I can recall, if you are diligent with the drops then the problem can be kept under control.

I've no idea on this, but I do know that they can use saliva to lubricate the eye in some cases.

We just used nice expensive Optimmune though. Everytime it was about to come out of licence (and so cheaper) they extended the licence period javascript:void(0)

I used to care for a dog that had this problem. She had some gel to put in her eyes and was fine after that. She didn't have any teeth probs as far as I remember..
