haven't seen any on websites I've looked at (am a bit nerd!), they seem to be more of an american thing. Why is it you want to try that one? People on here might be able to suggest a different bit that may suit?
Twisted snaffled are barbaric and should be banned, nobody in their right mind would use one. Why would you want to put one in your horses mouth? Apart from to wreak it and cause pain.
I am at a loss as to what to use on my horse xc and hacks in company - he turns into horrid monster from hell, and I cant stop him, or slow him down to a sensible pace. And before anyone has a go at me saying its a schooling issue, I do realise its work in progress, but I cant progress if he wont listen to me.
he sounds a bit of a bugger! What have you tried so far, in what ways don't they work (what evasion etc?) and what is his mouth confirmation like? I totally understand what you mean re the schooling. Pretty much any well schooled horse 'should' at some point be able to be ridden in a mannerly way with a light hand in a snaffle, but, you have to develop that perfect horse first without getting killed in the process!
he is id x tb, quite chunky beast. I have tried him in a NS Universal (worked wonders on my other horse) and a dutch gag (what previous owner had him in).
I wouldnt say he really "evades" anything, he really just doesnt listen to the bit. Went XC schooling on sat, and he came back with a sore mouth, even though I was really trying my hardest to ride him with seat and legs, he doesnt respond to the bit in the way I would like.
I have ordered a waterford full cheek to try to see if this is any better.
so when you use your hands, does he lock his neck, pull his head in etc? A waterford can be good for those who lean to get through the but, but if he tends to tuck behind the contact the ignore you then you might find he does it more. Perhaps try something which acts on areas other than his mouth if he ignores the bit? So poll pressure, curb pressure etc. What noseband do you use?
he more locks his neck than anything else - he certainly doesnt tuck his head and neck in. I ride at shows/shows etc with flash on, although not always at home, so he gets some relief from it being used constantly.
He sj's very nicely in a myler triple barrell full cheek job with hooks, also use this for hacking on his own (we do cantering), and he is very good in it, although having said that it can take him a while for him to stop when asked, but this is where I am working on him. He does his dressage in a loose ring sweet iron french link snaffle.
if the movement of the myler works for him then fingers crossed with the waterford! Are you getting it from a bit bank, saves a load if he is a tricky customer. The waterford def sounds a better plan than the twisted snaffle. Can you do more work with him, eg on the lunge, so he gets better at voice commands both for upwards and downwards transitions? My mare can be very resistant to stopping when the mood takes her, but lunge work then using vioce commands out hacking is suprisingly effective.
