Does anyone have a roan who dramatically changes colour?

My old man who sadly died 3 years ago this week was a bay roan. He had effectively 4 colours, a different one for each season although spring and autumn were more a mix of both. His head and legs always stayed the same colour. I have never come across another roan like this, does anyone have one?

I had a dun pony who was a really golden colour in the summer, she would gradually get lighter over autumn until she was nearly white in the winter but her neck would go black! really random!

My shetland George is a blue roan.

His legs, mane, tail and face are always dark brown, and in summer he is a beautiful smokey white, in winter he is fully dark -Fashion pony, a coat for all seasons lol

Our Welsh DxTB did this, she had pink lame in autumn and silver lame in winter, all rather fetchingly displayed above black stockings

We lost her 3 1/2 years ago at the age of 24.

We had problems at the local points show as the judge would be adamant that it was a different pony!

Some silly lady had Dewi on loan and put an ill fitting rug on him causing a tuft of hair to stick up on his bum...so what did she do? Clipped it off! The problem was that this patch always changed colour a season before the rest of him! I'm glad I never gave him a proper clip!

I knew a bay roan pony who was white with a brown head, black points in the winter, and a normal bay with white hairs throughout his coat in the summer. My chestnut mare is a different shade in summer and winter, and never exactly the same from year to year. In fact when I bought her, she had a black mane and tail, whereas now her mane is the same as her body colour. Right now she is sporting a bright orange patch over her backside which I'd thought was just the remains of her summer coat but as it isn't budging, it is obviously this season's variation!

My daughter's pony is a blue roan, and we clip him out in the winter, leaving his legs on. In the spring, just before he starts loosing his winter coat, his hairy legs go white, while the rest of him stays dark, he looks like he has got white wooly leg warmers on!
