Does anyone have an all weather turn out area on their yard?

Our yard has 5 old sand school turnouts each is about 12m by 4m. Most are under trees, where the grass was not good. As you can see they boarder arena, well 2 do. 3 others are other side of yard . It was either do that or pay to remove old sand ... It works well. This is one near the stables

Wow all of your turn out paddocks look great and also look expensive! :)
The idea sounds fab, but as I'll have limited grazing anyway, don't know if I can afford the space or the cost..... Thanks for sharing, some lucky ponies out there :)

I bought my own place in feb of this year and I am looking to do a hard standing area not sure to turn the grass bit outside the stables into hard standing or do a piece in each field.

Those that have an all year turnout/hard standing already what would you say is the best material to use?

Am having a hard standing area.......................
Its by the gate going to dig out a few inches of soil then compact some hardcore stone - we are using local dew stone. I am having one side of the hard standing post and rail (OH is putting in solid oak posts with a large strong piece of oak going across to tie the horses too) this is attached to the current post and rail (the long side back of the area where the gate is) the other short side is hedge and the front will be left open but can be sectioned off with elec tape and posts. The other sde of the hedge will be the field shelter again with around 15 feet of hardcore area outside) all together the hardcore area including the shelter is approx 70ft long and 36ft wide.......this is set on a 3 acre field

Ours was pretty cheap to do. We had a few loads of hardcore for free (uncleaned, big pieces) that a local farmer flattened out roughly with his tractor and bucket, it was about a foot to a foot and a half deep, then we got 3 lorry loads of road planings (which we paid £100/ load) and the farmer spread it for us again. We obviously paid him for his time and diesel, I think that was about £150, so £450 for the whole turnout area, which has been in use two winters and saved us hundreds in what we used to spend on mudrash treatments/preventions/vets bills. The morale of the horses is so much better when they are on the turnout all day with haylage as opposed to being in and only going out an hour or two.
