does anyone have any negative comments against going bitless

i defence of intouch I also have also only seen lower wolf teeth.
my horse has one erupted, one just under the gum, EDT said to leave them but Im not convinced. it doesnt affect the bit just looks a bit angry sometimes.

ETA- as for bitless, Im not a fan- no precision and just a bit clumsy for my liking
 
Actually , Quirky, I am a professional, with almost half a century's experience with several hundred horses. I used to have great respect for the veterinary profession, but these kids on the ground now only seem to know how to do tests and write bills. I know there is at least one sensible vet on this forum, so I dont tar them all with the same brush, but if I don't know what is wrong with my horse, the vet probably doesn't, either.
Now can we get back to the original discussion?

A professional what?????

The 'kid on the ground' as you call her, is not a young vet, she has been round the block many times but is not naive enough to think she knows everything :p:rolleyes:.

As I said, most respected EDT in the country missed them, maybe you could teach them a thing or too with your endless knowledge of everything horsey :).
 
i've ridden in a german and english hackamore and also a bitless bridle.
each had their own 'difficulties/problems' but at the same time they each had their upsides.
i started off using the english hackamore on an old pony but he didn't respect it at all, i then tried the german one and he listened to me and was responsive, i never had to pull on him or anything like that, that's the one that worked for us.
i tried the german one on another horse and she hated it with a passion, i put the english one on her and it worked.

i have tried both and the bitless on my present horse and he goes happier in the bitless.

just to add though that when i started using hackamores and all that it was about 20yrs ago, i had lessons on how to use it properly rather than just putting it on and going.
