Hi everyone - I am looking into buying a trailer for my newly purchased horse - she is 17.1. It is a mine field. I have narrowed it down to an Ifor Williams 510 or 511 - they seem to hold their value really well or a Cheval Liberte Classic Gold - also designed for the larger horse. Does anyone have any advice on which make is better/build quality/comfort for the horse etc? Thank you in advance.

I had a Bateson ascot sold it to buy a lorry if I wanted another trailer the ascot would
be my first choice or a goose neck with living hopefully equitrek will launch theirs soon
I would seriously consider getting one instead of the lorry...

Thanks - have done more research and the Bateson seems to get great reviews - have a good Deauvall - just worried my 17.1 wont fit in - its lower than the Ifor 511 by 33cm and shorter by 4 cm. What do you think?

I have a Cheval Liberte very nice trailers, they are very light and airy inside so very inviting for the horse un like the ifors.

I also found it tows better then the ifors because they are on pullman springs so when the car goes over a lump of bump in the road the trailer won't move half as much. Its loads more comfortable for the horses and our old very bad to load giant went in there without an issue but would not go in the ifor :)

I had a 510 but it was stolen, I have a Bateson Dev now and whilst I like the Bateson more than the 510 there is definitely more room in the 510 for a bigger horse, I wouldn't like to put anything bigger than a 16.2 in the Bateson, although my issue was more of a width one as I had a Shire x.

In the past have had two ifor 505's and never let me down once!
My friend has the bateson deauville and its very narrow, my horse is only 15.2hh and he wouldnt go in, yet will go in the ifor,

i am looking at getting the equi trek trail treka m, with a side load,

have you looked at the trail treka l? for horses upto 18hh and a side load is great for big horses

I have a Cheval Liberte (but it goes up to 2 x 16.2hh not 2 x 17.2hh). Regardless I think it's fab. It tows brilliantly and my horses love it.

The only problem I have had is that the height of the top breast bar seemed to be a bit high for my 16.1hh who bumped himself on it once. I now have him on the lower breast bar and he's fine - so bear in mind to double check that the breast bar height is right - even if your horse is at the taller end of the trailer size spectrum!

I have a 17.1hh TB/Cleveland and bought an Ifor 510 which is huge. He has loads of room and it's great to tow. Any boy do they hold their value!

Hi I have a new equi-trek trail trekka as the side loading suited my mare who was a little nervous of trailers but not lorries. I had the side windows and tack loaker fitted aswell as it meant plenty of air circulation and no tack in my car also the rear mounted partiton means i can allow my mare to stand herringbone. The easy clean ramp gates also provide a good visual guide for the horse. www.equi-trek.co.uk

I LOVE my IW 510 (owned for c 13 years) and Daihatsu Fourtrak, but I would really like some living. However, as I hunt and often park in fields/on verges I don't really want a lorry. Is it only Equi Trek that offers living in a trailer? Just wonder why Ifor, Bateson etc don't offer this, there is obviously a market..
