As above really, not looking for horror stories we all know there can be a bad side to ops, but general tings to be aware of before and after really.
My girl is having one done next week and just want to be a bit prepared!

My mare had one four weeks ago! She had a lesion on the SDFT hind fetlock but as they operated, they found that the manica flexoria was torn so not the best prognosis when I spoke to surgeon later that day! She came through the op fine and was allowed to in hand graze the following day. She did have a few off days 48 hours later and didn't eat much and kept lying down and blood tests showed high liver enzymes. They thought it was the intravenous antibiotics so changed them and she soon perked up. I took her home after 6 days at the equine clinic. She had stitches out 2 weeks after op and then bandage off the following week. I was allowed to in hand graze her every day and started 5 mins twice a day controlled walking after 3 weeks.
What tendon injury does your horse have?

I will be honest and say that i can't say for sure! it seems to have gone a bit over my head, i know that she has to have a test to check which part the adhesions are on before they confirm the op. All do to a tendon in the right fore being stretched and not at a point to heal itself, i feel so bad.
I think i just need reassurance that things will be ok, she will be fine though the op and there is hope after it's all done!

I'm sure the op will be fine! I was lucky as my vets could do it rather than sending her down to Newmarket! I was really worried about her having the op and it didn't help that we had Ofsted in school that same day too! I was so stressed! Despite the awful prognosis that I had from the surgeon, he is now really happy with how it is healing and thinks that she will be ridden again! However I'm not sure that I want to risk it! He has warned me that she will be on box rest all winter:( We have 3 months of walking and then 3 months of walk/ trot! He is scanning it again in 2 weeks time! The in hand grazing is definitely helping my girl to cope with box rest!
Are you insured? Lucky my insurance company have been great and so far with 2 scans and op, and 3 more visits, my bill is around £3200.

I am insured thank god! But now worrying that i will have to pay the amount due when she leaves, she's going to RVC in Potters Bar but according to their website they ask for payment, although i have heard of insurance companies being invoiced direct.

Always something to worry about!

On the up side i'm glad that you have a good outlook though, it's soul destroying when waiting to hear if they can be used again. I'll be more than happy to wait months as long as i get my girlie back.

My insurance company pay my vets directly! I think op and 6 days at clinic came to around £2300 I had no clue of what it was going to cost and was worried that my insurance money would run out!
Good luck with op and let me know how it goes! I am just aiming for mine to be a field ornament as she is 14 now and I have had her 9 years:)

I'm sure it will all work out with insurance, i'm the same just want to know how much of my insurance will be used!

Aw at least you will still have her around. I hope to get mine on the road again as she is only 9!
Will definitely let you know how it goes, thanks :)
