As above really, after a shock lesson today I realised I really need to think about what I would like to do when I am older and I'm just wondering if anyone has horsey jobs out there, do you enjoy them? Do them just because they involve horses? Do it for the extra cash? etc..

I run a livery yard, its not just a job, its everything to me, living on site means always thinking about work, not that I mind, can't see myself living any other way!

I LOVED working in the tack shop, but I would NEVER work at a RS again. I was working there to train to be a AI, but they had me working like a dog, I didnt like the way the horses were treated, their only numbers for those places

I want to be a free lance eventually

Being my own boss is the best way

Different type of horsey job but I work for a professional photographer during the summer at horse shows. I do it for extra cash as contrary to popular belief being a pro photographer doesn't earn you much unless you own the company, but it combines my 2 favourite hobbies and I make money out of it, couldn't be much better.

I miss working with horses and if my back wasn't completely b*ggered now I'd go back to it. The money is crap, I was offered free livery which is how I ended up with a horse of my own (well it would be a shame not to use it lol) but it was good fun while it lasted. It was the only job I've ever had where I used to wake up in the morning and jump out of bed looking forward to the day ahead. The yard I worked at was a bit of a nightmare and my boss was verging on bonkers which is why I eventually left but even despite that I really liked the job. In fact I'm seriously pondering whether I can realistically go back to it....

I'm a head groom. The money sucks, the hours suck, the 'perks' aren't brilliant, but I do it for the love of the horses and I can't think of anything else I would rather be doing.

Exactly this ^^^

I have worked as a groom before and just started my new job on a college yard last week

The money is crap when you work with horses....
It is usually physical work.
The hours are not usually ideal.
But its the only thing that I can see myself spending 8 hours a day doing without being bored out of my brain.

Sort of horsey as I run a company that manufactures horsey
things. Its great making something that relates to your
passion, nattering to customers about their horses and going
to the big shows like Badminton with the Trade Stand but in
reality all the usual drudgery of running a small business
are there too! Trying to get out all the christmas orders in time
and finding that the special colour binding has been delivered the wrong
width and so won't go through the binding machines, and no the
Supplier doesn't have any, but they could make some 3rd week
In january if you don't mind ordering 3000 metres...stuff like that

I did work as a groom in the dim and distant past, but know its
not for me. No money and exhaustion is no fun after a while!

Ditto this, worked on various yards over the years, LOVED stud work despite crappy money & hours. I am starting a new job in a few weeks doing equine research...lucky me!

i work with horses designing tools which monitors there work - it's cool, and have just got a job lecturing, in Equine

yay!
have a degree in equine science, have BHS quals, have done lots of teaching, am sorting out my Masters now, also have a diploma in management......

so yes, there are horsey jobs out there- you have to look hard for them though

I have done various jobs with horses over the last few years (mostly summers/weekends while in college). Stud work paid the best but I found it kind of boring. Loved working on the racing yards and one day hope to train a few horses myself. I now hunt pointers for a few trainers and have a few offers to ride out - I just have to get myself sorted out first, its hard to fit it around my full time job! I have also worked as showjumping groom for couple of naional and international riders.
Now i work as a (predominantly equine) vet - and love it! But again, the money isnt great (despite what people think!)
