Again today, someone has asked to use my spaniel as a stud, so with two bitches lined up it is (fingers crossed) quite possible that I will get a puppy, probably in the summer.

My question is, once we hit September I will be out working both the older dogs on the shoot about once a week but I can see this would be a problem leaving a puppy behind on its own.

Does anyone here have 3 dogs and do you ever leave one behind?

Well, I have two that are together, both labs one is 7 the other is 7 months. We always abandon her

when Tina goes out shooting. Pup needs to get used to occasionally being on her own.

If you start it young I can't see a problem..I would continue taking them out without the puppy every now and again ie while riding, before shooting season starts to get him used to it...

I have 3 dogs..2 jrt's and a collie. I often take two out and leave one behind..they're used to it and its fine. Sometimes my older Jack can't be bothered so he stays behind or sometimes I walk the jacks together and leave the collie..

We've got three and one has recently had an operation so has been confined to home when the others went walking for an hour or so. She's been bothered initially but has got over it. My terrier hates being left though as she's never been on her own. She also hates it if I take one out and leave her with the other one. Howls like a banshee.

Not really bothered though as luckily we don't have any neighbours and the web cam tells us she stops soon enough!

I have 2 labs and an old rottie. I often take 2 for a walk, and i try to leave the lab pup sometimes so he gets used to it.

Like honeypots said if you start it young it shouldnt be a prob.

Thanks for your advice everyone and you are right it is something I will have to do from a young age - starting off when there is still someone at home.

Hi I've got FOUR Labs now and often split them up for working /exercise in any combination as well as taking them all out together. They are all bitches and get on very well.As you say starting them from an early age helps.Good luck!
