Does anyone here do Riding for the disabled?

good for you:D
I have been going for a year and a half and I love it. I get very tired after because of the concentration and work but look forward to it. Some of the kids that I work with can be quite challenging but it is great to see them improve over time. You will see some very happy people. Horses make them smile (usually).
We have one person who leads and then two people who walk beside the rider. Our group is very friendly and lovely people.

Yup, I teach (working for my logbook) for my local group - love it :D

All I can suggest with regards to what to expect is if you're not sure ask, especially when it comes to helping riders.

Enjoy!

Its good fun - abit tiring and you may feel quite dizzy towards the end with all the jogging round in circles! Very rewarding to see the quieter children come out of their shells a little more each week :)

My mum is an instructor at our local RDA and I have been going since I was a little kid as one of our ponies was previously on loan to the RDA group to be used in the classes. Most RDA groups will give you an introduction and a 'walk through' of most things to do as well as explain anything you might need to know, as the others said just ASK as I know whenever we get a new volunteer we are thrilled. It really is great to work with both the ponies and the rider and I know I get a good feeling every week after I leave.

I used to when I was in my last few years at school and loved it - it really is hugely rewarding and a lot of fun!

Your post has reminded me that it's actually something I'd love to go back to doing again...off to have a look and see if there are any local groups at a time I can manage to get to regularly!
