Just wondered what people do and how old they insure their foals at - I appreciate those with loads probably don't insure them at all but what about smaller - home breeders?
I had my broodmare insured but foaly became ill about 4 days after she was born. Luckily she pulled through but after IV, antibiotics, electrolytes and umpteen vets visits it wasn't cheap. Tried to see if I could claim on mare's insurance (she's insured for breeding) but I couldn't.
Thing is - if I'd insured foaly on day of birth I still wouldn't have been able to claim because of the 14 day policy! She isn't insured now (at 4 months) and I'm not sure whether to bother?
What do other people do - Insure at birth or when the foal is weaned?
