Does anyone in the Chorleywood area need help with their horse?

I'm looking to get back into riding after selling my horses last year to start a family. Ideally I'd like to help somebody who has a competition horse who needs somebody to ride, help at shows etc, maybe once or twice a week. I have owned and ridden horses all my life and really enjoy competing and training (affiliated BE/BSJA to riding club activities). I know when I had 2 horses I would have jumped at the chance of somebody else exercising/schooling helping at shows when I couldn't make it.

Don't mind if it's just on a temporary or "as needed" basis, but missing the involvement with horses. Would prefer a competition horse on a yard with facilities close to Chorleywood but open to suggestions.

Dont know of anyone at the moment but I am Amersham area so can keep an ear open for you.

Good luck in the search. Have you asked in the local Tack shops?

Not tried tack shops yet - good thinking! I've emailed my local riding club and put something up on herfordshire horse riders facebook page.

One person has offered a share at £20 per day, 3 days a week which is more than I wanted financially and time wise. To be honest I ended up paying someone to ride my horse when I didn't have the time so not keen on paying too much for the priviledge.

The trouble is people are very cautious about trusting people with their horses. Especially competition horses I would imagine.
You only need to read some of the threads on here to see peoples opinions and bad experiences with sharing/loaning etc.
There are definitely people around our area that want a couple of days exercising and chores but like you say its just finding them!
I would go to tack shops and ask there. Places like Bellingdon End have huge notice boards with various adverts on. There are loads of big livery yards as well, I can give you the names if you dont know them already.
Word of mouth is your best bet if you dont want to commit to a share with financial contribution.

I am on a yard in Chorelywood but I am afraid most people who would like some help would be looking for a sharer who is willing to make a financial contribution and there is only one person on our yard who is competing at affiliated level with a horse (presume you are not interested in ponies) and I don't think she is looking for any help. I know someone who is looking for a sharer but her horse is not an affilated competition horse and she would be wanting a financial contribution.

You could try going round and putting up adverts in the local yards tea room but you would have to make it clear you are offering to do chores in return for rides and not wanting a share where you need to make a financial contribution. If you are available during the week days when most people are at work them you may have more luck as that tends to be when people need more help.

If you are on Facebook you could put an ad up on the Hodgemoor Riding Association, Three Rivers Riding Club and Chalfont Heights are the two local riding clubs who might be able to put an advert out to their members or put something on their facebook pages.

Thanks for your helpful suggestion, I'll try that.

Doesn't look like I've been very clear. It doesn't need to be an affiliated competition horse, but looking for more than a hack. Maybe a hunter or allrounder, or one with potential. Im not looking for chores in exchange for rides and am happy to make a small contribution, but £60 per week is a big ask especially as I've normally produced horses and increased value. Saying that he sounds like a very nice horse so sorely tempted!

Just thought there maybe someone on here that could do with a hand from a trustworthy experienced rider. Unfortunately im relatively new to the area so don't have as many horsey contacts (but can get references)

But if you can keep your ear to the ground that would be great!

I think most of the people on the yard who have sharers are charging about £30 a week for 3 days for sharing a horse on DIY livery. If someone is asking for £60 for 3 days I would presume that the horse is on part livery as most yards are not charging more than about £140 a month for DIY livery so £60 a week would be a lot.

There are loads of yards in Chorleywood so it might be worth just popping in and asking if someone wants some help.

Thanks SO1,

I'm not actually after a share but am offering help to somebody who needs it. Although I don't work with horses now I have done in the past and am a capable hand for somebody who needs it.

Thanks for info about share prices anyway, useful in case in need a sharer myself in years to come :-)
