Just curious as to how they recruit them? I'm a medic doing a PhD but would be up for doing 'temp' work at one day events, since I like to go along anyway! That way OH can go eventing and I can come along and feel useful! If anyone encounters one of these medics (hopefully not through injury) can they pick their brains for me please?!
 
I'm in my PRHO year as a doc and "shaddowed" at P2P to see what it involves etc and got chatting to some of the other medics who suggested joining the Medical Equestrian Association http://www.medequestrian.co.uk/ I haven't quite got round to it yet, but really need to get on to it. Often it's done by word of mouth too - I've been asked to help out with events, and have obliged as long as my defence union are happy.

You'll be welcomed with open arms at smaller events I'm sure, but certainly for some affliated events you have to be a certain level in certain specialties - such as registrar or above in anaesthetics/A&E or a GP. A consultant psychiatrist might not be that much use at Badminton, but might be at Glastonbury....

I know a GP who does local PC and RC events, and sometimes our local county show. I think with him it has been word of mouth though, as he is a horsey person with 2 kids who are very active in the local PC.
 
Why don't you telephone your local BE event organiser and find out how they go about finding a doctor? Organisers' details are on the BE website.
 
Contact Carolyn Simm at BE & tell her you'd like to get involved. Recruiting doctors can be quite difficult so if you have some A&E/trauma experience you will be welcomed with open arms!
