does anyone know about BHS stage one?

well im at equine college and taking my stage one on friday, i am absolutely bricking it just a few questions about the exam any help welcome..

- how long does the exam usually take?
- are the examiners intimidating or do they try to help you?
and any other general comments on how you found the exam or how people you know found the exam would help loads!
 
Stage One is over in a morning....

Examiners esp at Stage 1 know your nervous and are kind and try and help you keep calm

Other tip, is BREATHE!! Take your ime to answer and don't panic if you do make a mistake or it goes a bit wrong!! Esp in the riding, as long as you handle it in the right way you'll be fine! One of the horses I rode wouldn't stand still!!!! Making a mistake or getting an answer wrong does not mean an automatic fail.

thanks thats a great help especially since the centre is over an hour away so my mum was wondering whether it was worth going but clearly not!
hopefully get some nice and not intimmidating examiners just worried about the riding and trotting up because the arena is apparently surrounded by stables and all the horses get distracted, hopefully it goes well :D

also do you know what to wear for your stage one, i was planning on tweed jacket, canary jods, long boots, cream **** & tie and obv hairnet, hat and gloves.. would this be correct or what did people wear when you did your stage one?
 
That's all fine for your dress. Try for a dark and plain tie.

Second all that galaxy said. Take a breath and think before answering questions, and the examiners are fine - they do realise it's in nobody's interest for them to be anything else! Only other thing would be really obviously - make sure you leave enough time and then some to get to the venue, especially if you haven't been before. Good luck :)

PS re the riding and trotting up - focus on what you're doing, not what the horse is doing, and you'll help both you and the horses out a bundle. You may also get some good advice in the Careers and Education forum.
