.....If you are allowed to ride your test in sitting trot?

Last week we went to a show that was holding a prelim qualifier for uk riders (i think, but not sure what championship).
My daughter decided to do the test as it would be4 a change from the usual showing classes and she qualified, she hasnt done dressage for several years so she was soooo pleased.

Back to the question, she rode the test in sitting trot, when i came home and told a friend who is a dressage fanatic she said that she should not have been allowed to ride the prelim tests in sitting trot.

Is she right?

You can do either sitting or rising.........when it gets to the higher levels its sitting only

Oh thats great, thanks for that.

We were hoping that she could as she has always prefered doing dressage tests in sitting trot. Im not familiar with the rules at all.

Because Prelim is the lowest level test and therefore is designed for either young inexperience horses, or horses in the first stages of training.

This would therefore imply that the horse would not easily be able to carry a rider in sitting trot and maintain suppleness and 'throughness' and sitting trot would cause unnecessary tension.

Our dales pony (8 years old now) is well schooled and responsive, albeit his first dressage test although they have done occasional rides to music.
Mainly his forte is in the show ring.

My daughter is 23 years and has always concentrated on equitatation alongside her showing. The last test she rode was when she was ten years old and she was asked to go to the talent spotting day for young riders but we could not persue it at the time.
We thought it best that her first test to get back into it should ideally be a prelim.

She does have a good deep seated sitting trot and the pony relaxes and responds well in this mode of being ridden.

I can see your rationale why it may not considered appropraite though as a general thought.

Hi could i ask a question please?
U know during the test? could i sit for a couple of movements and then go back to rising or does it all have to be in rising trot?
xxx

You could sit - just be prepared for the judge to be a bit sarky (depending on who they are!) I rode a difficult mare in sitting trot and the judges comment was "wasn't that a tremendously long test in sitting trot" second judge in the other test didn't mind it - guess it depends on the judges experience!
